I listened to the audible of this book.
The plot was decent (I love zombies) in this book, the rotters disgusting, as they should be. The back and forth between past and present were pretty cool, once you got used to them. It was the writing style that really got me, though it did break up the flow of the story a bit. The way the dialogue was laid out, mostly. It may not bother others, it may be a completely personal thing, but it really took me out of the story and I was unable to get into the book or connect with any characters. And I really wanted to! I even put it aside for a while, thinking maybe it was just the mood I was in, but when I restarted it, it didn't really change for me and I ended up forcing myself to finish it. I also was unable to get into the narrator. There was nothing I can specifically name about him that I didn’t enjoy, he simply wasn't my cup of tea. It could also be because I wasn't able to connect with the story that I feel this way, though. Perhaps with another story, written in a style more my speed, I'd like him better? I AM interested in finding out what happens down the road with this tale, though, and I don't want this review to deter anyone who is intrigued! Please remember that this is just my personal and honest opinion. I hate, hate, hate having to leave low ratings, but I try to be as honest possible. Overall, I give this 2.5 Platypires |
