Review by J. Hooligan
I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I read some pretty amazing stories in these anthology, and I've discovered several new authors I will have to look into.
All and all, I give it 4/5 platypires.
I can honestly say that this author was the reason why I offered to review this book for my blog. I hadn't read anything else by her, but I had heard a lot of good things so I really wanted to give her a shot.
There are small issues I found with the story that made me raise my eyebrow, but nothing that really took me out of the story.
I will admit that I had chosen the worst spot ever to read it, a children's play place while my spawn ran off energy. I'm pretty sure I was beet red towards the end. It didn't help that I'm almost certain I had forgotten how to breathe.
That being said, I really enjoyed this story. It was definitely worth getting this book just for this one.
Holy crap balls! Can I say that in a review? Because I totally just did. This story... Wow. I was not expecting something like that at all.
So many feelings were stirred up in me from just this short story, and now I have to read more from her because of this.
My favorite part was at the end when she mentioned there is a full length version coming soon. I cannot wait to read that!
First of all, I wish there was more to this story. It just felt like there were parts missing, and I need them immediately so I can read them.
I liked the story, but there were a few instances of things not seeming to flow well. Even for a short story, it felt a little rushed.
That being said, it shall be known that the end was adorable. I enjoyed it a lot. I just wish there had been more to read.
As someone who has been in a similar situation, this story was a powerful read. The emotions and fear that can sometimes come with an interracial relationship, even in this day and age, is all too real.
I found the writing to be amusing, because of how descriptive Gwen is of everything around her. At first I thought this was a story from the past, because of how she wrote in her diary. It did throw me off a couple times before I was sure what was going on in it.
I will have to look more into Rene Folsom's works after reading this.
Oh my holy freaking gawd... I need a moment to catch my breath. I'm pretty sure there was a part that my heart was going to jump out of my chest, it was pounding so hard.
This was my favorite story in the anthology. Marie is an amazing writer... how she was able to cause such a reaction from me, with a short story nonetheless.
I don't have words to express the awesomeness that is what I just read. I will say this... if I do not get more of it soon, I will spontaneously combust. It is that epic.
I really enjoyed this story. The pace at the beginning was nice, and kept me interested. I liked the relationship because Kate and Lana, but wished their was more interaction between the both of them.
When Matt showed up, that's when this story really took off. I was unable to put it down, because the chemistry between him and Kate was just too great.
This was one of my favorites, until the end. It just seemed a little too perfect, and I found myself losing a little interest. Still, I was impressed by the author and I will definitely be looking more into her books in the future.
