"Sleep Over" - Asher and Eve, Restraint Excerpt
I’m brushing my teeth when Asher swaggers into the bathroom. He leans his hip against the counter and just watches me. It’s starting to freak me out. I squint at him before spitting.
“Can I help you?”
“Huh?” he asks.
“You’re staring.” I tip my toothbrush at him.
“Am I?” He tilts his head to the side and crosses his arms.
I spit one last time and start my flossing routine and gargle my mouth rinse, all while Asher just stands there, observing me. Seriously, what’s he doing?
“Curious about dental care?”
“Curious about you,” he shoots back.
“Okay.”
He shrugs. “I like watching you do normal, everyday things.”
I blink. “Did you get clocked in training today?”
“No.” He slides his hands into the pockets of his pajama bottoms. “Want to have a sleep over?”
“Sleepover?” I repeat, less than enthused.
“Pajamas, pillow fights, gossip. You know, sleepover,” he clarifies, like I’m an idiot.
I sigh. “You’re freaking me out. What the hell is going on?”
He reaches for me and grabs the hem of my tank top, pulling me towards him. I stumble a bit and have to place my hands on his shoulders for balance as he tugs me closer. “I want you in my bed tonight. I was hoping you’d fall asleep in my arms.” His eyes lock onto mine.

Interview
As a reader, turned a uthor, the only advice I could offer is to take the plunge. As long as you write a story you love, then it’s worth it.
When did you start writing?
I’ve always written. Since childhood really. I got serious about it in college and really started to focus on it (more than just a hobby) about five years ago.
What made you decide to publish your first book?
A friend of mine, who works in the publishing industry, read some of what I had written when first drafting Revelation and encouraged me to consider publishing it. After a lot of research and consideration, I finally decided to publish the book.
What motivates you to write?
I love to write. It’s truly like breathing for me. Writing allows me a creative outlet that simply calms my mind. I force myself to sit down each evening and write something. Whether I keep what I have written or not, I do make sure to try and get something down on paper each day.
Do you ever feel frustrated with your work?
Daily. Hourly. Basically every second - lol.
What makes you keep writing when you get frustrated?
Ultimately, drive. The goal I’ve set for myself to write and finish each book, helps me push through. Then it’s also the amazing readers who are really embracing this series. I want it to be good for them and that helps motivate me to conquer the frustration.
How do you handle negative reviews of your books?
Perspective. Not everyone likes everything, including my books, and that’s okay. At the end of the day, if I’m proud of the finished product, that’s all that matters.
What do you enjoy, outside of writing?
I love spending time with my family and friends. I adore the beach, reading, wine, and I’m a huge foodie. I’m also a die hard Game of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy Fan.
What's something about you that most people don't know?
I'm short, like 5’ 1”. However, my drivers license says 5’ 2” so that’s the height I’m sticking to. ;)
Have you ever had to rewrite portions of a book because the characters decided to be someone else than you intended?
Yes! All the time. In Revelation, book one, I was really getting to know everyone. Now in Restraint, book two, they all have opinions of where they feel their story and character should go. It can be frustrating at times.
Where do you come up with the names for your stories?
In my world, book titles are dictated by the content of the novel. For instance, Revelation, book one, has two meanings: a surprising and previously unknown fact, especially one that is made known in a dramatic way and the divine or supernatural disclosure to humans of something relating to human existence or the world. Since the entire book was about shocking facts being made known in a dramatic way, as well as a divine disclosure to humans then it just seemed fitting.
Did you ever think you'd be a published author?
Never. If you had told me five years ago that I would be a published author, I probably would have rolled my eyes and taken you out for coffee. Because you seem sweet, silly, but sweet. ;)
What are you working on currently?
Right now, I’m finishing up Redemption, (The Revelation Series, Book #3) which will be released sometime in November. The cover and trailer will most likely be revealed around September/October.
Who is your favorite character that you've written?
That’s an unfair question. It’s like picking a favorite child. I love them all for different reasons on different levels, and daily, I tell each one they are my favorite.
Do you have a favorite genre to write?
Paranormal Romance. It’s a fantastic genre that really allows my world building to shine and creativity to flow. I mean where else can you push the boundaries of the impossible in otherwise ‘normal’ circumstances?
Do you prefer your books in print or e-book format?
Print hands down. Nothing beats the feel and smell of a physical book.
What are you currently reading?
Currently, I’m obsessed with The Stage Dive Series by Kylie Scott. I also have a total author crush on Jay Crownover and her Marked Men and Point Series.
What is your favorite book?
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Humor me, because this is my favorite (mythical) animal: Would you ever consider putting a platypire in one of your books?
Absolutely. I think the supernatural protectors in The Revelation Series would whole-heartedly appreciate a platypire. They’re almost kindred spirits with their bat-like wings, no?
Thank you so much for having me today! It’s been a lot of fun.
