"This is nice,” he said. I raised my head from his chest and gazed up at him. “I like spending time with you, Addie. I find myself liking it just a little too much.”
“That’s impossible,” I told him, and his lips quirked into a half-way smile. “You can never like something too much.”
“Says who?” He asked, his eyes studying my face.
"My sister,” I replied, thinking of the first time Nate had asked her out on a date. At the level of her excitement when she had come home that night singing his praises, I had told her that maybe she liked this guy just a little bit too much. Tears picked my eyes, and I felt Chance’s finger brush against my cheek. “Natalie always said when you love someone you love them with your whole heart. You don’t get to choose which bit or piece of yourself that you give away. You might end up with a broken heart, but at least you know that you gave it your all.”
“I think, I would have liked your sister,” Chance said, and a tear seeped from the corner of my eye trickling down my cheek at the kindness in his voice. He brushed it away. I smiled at him through my tears. “I think she would have liked you too,” I told him.
He grinned, leaned forward and I raised my head so he could press his lips against mine.
It was a gentle, sweet kiss.
