She stepped out of the shower with the towel wrapped around her and starred at him. “What’s wrong, she said, why did you stop?”
“This whole night, what just happened here tonight, you and me, it can’t go on.” His voice was stern and firm. “You just can’t keep doing this to me. Christ Samantha, you fucking drive me crazy. This isn’t a one-night stand any more. We both have too much at stake.”
“I’ll go.” she said, and she started down the stairs to gather her clothes.
“No, stop.” He ran after her. “Get back up here now. Are you out of your fucking mind? You can’t leave now. It’s almost two in the morning. You can’t drive home in that open Wrangler at this time of the night. What’s fucking wrong with you?” He yelled at her.
She turned around and walked back into his bedroom.
“Here, come on get into bed. I have to get to sleep. You do know I have a job to go to.”
She climbed into bed, Max set his wristwatch for seven A.M. and he climbed in behind her, clasping her breast and pulling her still moist back closer to his chest.
His alarm went off and Max wrestled himself free of her grasp. She stirred and opened her eyes. He already had his briefs on and was sitting on the edge of the bed putting on his socks. Max didn’t say a word. He walked into the bathroom and brushed his teeth. He ran his fingers through his hair, and reached for the rest of his clothes. He walked downstairs, Samantha was already dressed.
“I have to go, he said. Wait a bit before you leave. It’s light enough outside; you shouldn’t have any problems getting home.” He didn’t touch her. He didn’t kiss her. He grabbed his laptop, checked for his phone and keys and walked out the door. She heard the garage door close and watched from the living room window as he drove away.
Samantha locked the condo, got in her Jeep and headed for home. She opened the front door. Ryder was sitting on the couch drinking coffee. He stared at her. “You’ve been out all night.” He said in an acerbic tone.
She stared back at him and walked to her bedroom.
