Carrot is a delightful story about a common house cat who finds that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Carrot envies the fancy white cat she sees on a yacht in the bay and fantasizes a life of wealth: “She would be asked to marry / the Earl of Kent’s cat. / Nothing could be / more romantic than that.” Finally Carrot realizes her “common” life has much to offer that idleness aboard a yacht could never fulfill: “Without their sweet Carrot / what would her poor family do? / And what of the mouse? / Who would tend to his flu?”
My Review:
Carrot by Vanita Oelschlager
My rating: 4 of 5 stars 4 Platypires for Carrot by Vanita Oelschlager I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest review. This is my second book from Vanita Oelschlager that I have read. Totally completely different from "Postcards from a War" so I really impressed with her range. I picked up Carrot because I am a fan of cats so I really liked the cover. I thought the poetry was fun and the subtle message about being happy with what you have in life was wonderful. I also liked the drawings and the poetry. I would recommend this to young children. View all my reviews |
