There’s a single defining moment within every skater.
It lasts only a second. Two if you're good.
Three if you’re really good.
It’s the moment you’re in the air, your board somewhere
beneath you, and nothing but wind surrounds you.
It’s the feeling of being airborne.
The sixteen-year-old version of me would’ve said it was the
greatest feeling in the world.
Then at seventeen, I had my son.
And every single second became a defining moment. Even the ones that consisted of heartbreak when his mother left us.
Seventeen. Single. Dad.
That’s what my life became.
Yet, every day, I managed to find that feeling of being
airborne.
Or at least I convinced myself I did.
But I lied—to myself and to everyone around me.
Until she showed up; Tanned skin, raven dark hair, and eyes the color of emeralds.
You know what sucks about being in the air?
Coming down from the high.
Sometimes you land on the board and nail the trick.
Then kick, push, and coast away.
Other times you fall.
You fall hard.
And those are the times when it’s not as easy to get back up, dust off your pads and try again.
Especially when the girl with the emerald eyes becomes your drug...
And you become her poison.
My Review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
3 1/2 Platypires by Jay McLean.
I get one free book a month from Kindle Unlimited because I am an Amazon Prime member. Kick, Push was my choice for August. I never heard of the author Jay McLean and didn't even realize that this was a new release. Kick, Push is labeled as Kick, Push #1 but I kinda feel that is misleading. This is actually a companion book to "Where the Road Takes Me." and I had no idea. I even checked back to the synopsis and there wasn't any mention of it. References/plot points are made to "Where the Road take me" and I feel that made it to where I can't read it now. I kinda know what's gonna happen. Oh well.
Now for the story Kick, Push, I thought it was really engaging. DRAMA! Just crazy amount of drama and heartache. This was definitely a roller-coaster of emotions. There are parts where you'll love the characters and parts where you'll just hate them and question their thought process. Also this is pretty hard read with very hard subject matters. So their might be some triggers for people who've dealt with any kind of abuse.
Now for the writing, I thought the dialogue was great but I did notice a lack of description. Honestly, I can't tell you want the characters looked liked but the fact that Becca had beautiful green eyes and Josh had a great smile. There wasn't really much description to scenery either which I thought was kinda weird. Anyways, the story made up for it and I freaking love Tommy. He is so adorable.
Going in I knew that this story could end in a cliffhanger. The book is titled Book 1. Which is a big clue btw. So I wasn't surprised when it happen. I thought it was done correctly and I can't wait to read the next book. Just not sure about the wait time.
I would recommend Kick, Push for those who like their books filled with a lot of emotional drama.
