We were suppose to have the Testing trilogy meeting this past November but like most things with the best intentions we had didn't meet that goal. So to accommodate everyone's reading schedule and the holidays we moved the meeting for today. Due to the fact that is was a special meeting not all members could attend but turnout was still great. Normally, we have 12-16 members attend and today we had 7. It made the meeting more intimate but before I get ahead of myself we did have one snafu. We had picked a dessert place that had closed down. Oh how we wanted some crepes! I just wanted to scream. I was craving them all day and to not have them left me feeling bummed. Luckily there was a Mexican restaurant nearby and they were accommodating by sectioning us away from everybody.

The big plus side of moving the meeting to a Mexican restaurant is that I got to have a grande margarita on the rocks. . Book talk and margaritas now that's not a bad Sunday at all. Now before the meeting ever started and before we even picked a date. I had looked up the author to see if she had any discussion questions for the books. I could not find any and emailed the author. She wrote me back with a link (<--) and told me she didn't have discussion questions but did have an educators guide. This was helpful for me to come up with questions of my own. Feel free to use my guide but please be aware these are just my notes. I only did the first two books. I did make any questions for the 3rd book.

The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau
My rating: 4 of 5 stars I really did enjoy this book and could not put it down. I was very intrigued with the world that was left behind after so many wars. The story was reminiscent of Hunger Games and Divergent. Even the cover wasn't that unique. But it still did a really good job with being different. My only complaint was that I felt the characters were too smart and really lucky. For graduating high school they had a lot of training and specialization. Cia the protagonist just knew everything that it didn't feel real but I still liked her. I can't wait to read the next book. I would recommend this book to those who are fan of dystopian books. Independent Study by Joelle Charbonneau
My rating: 4 of 5 stars I liked this book. It reminded me more of divergent than the hunger games this time but still was different. My only complaint remains the same. I think Cia is too smart and knows all the answers. Even though she showed vulnerability and fear in this book. It would have been more realistic if she were wrong or made a mistake at some point. Anyways, I can't wait to read the next book. I must know how it ends. View all my reviews |
