Excerpt
The dance floor was just about empty save for a few drunk couples that were dry humping one another. I glanced around the rest of the room and my attention was immediately caught by the blonde girl sitting on the couch in the far corner of the bar. She was speaking animatedly with someone, her hands flying through the air in front of her as she recounted some story. Then I turned my attention to the person she was speaking to; Kade. Swearing, my head fell backwards and I rolled my eyes upwards. Son of a bitch. Why did it have to be Kade? Why did have to be her? As I watched them, Kade’s eyes met mine momentarily and he shot me a sharp look and I knew exactly what he was telling me - back off. I gave him a little half wave and headed to the back to start the closing duties. I heard him loud and clear and this time I really was going to leave the girl alone. My friendship with Kade was too important to keep jeopardizing it like I had been. This time I was going to be good.
But why did it have to be her?
