Seventeen-year-old Emma was the only one who hadn’t given up on her boyfriend, Lucas. Everyone else—his family, his friends, his doctors—was convinced that any moment could be his last. So when Lucas miraculously returns from the brink of death, Emma thinks her prayers have been answered.
As the surprised town rejoices, Emma begins to question whether Lucas is the same boy she’s always known. When she finds an unidentifiable object on his family’s farm—and government agents come to claim it—she begins to suspect that nothing is what it seems. Emma’s out-of-this-world discovery may be the key to setting things right, but only if she and Lucas can evade the agents who are after what they have. With all her hopes and dreams on the line, Emma sets out to save the boy she loves. And with a little help from a distant star, she might just have a chance at making those dreams come true.

4 Platypires for From a Distant Star by Karen Mcquestion
I received a free digital copy from Netgalley for an honest review.
This book was a really fun read. Right off the bat I was immediately engaged when the story started from the POV from Mack the dog. I thought that was really unique and I just wanted to read more. The story is really fast paced and I enjoyed it a lot.
The story is about Emma who's boyfriend and the love of her life, Lucas is dying of cancer. She is the only one in Lucas' life who does not believe he's on the brink of death even though he's in a coma. She refuses to give up hope even if it involves using a "potion" from the town so called witch. Yet, when Lucas starts to recover he doesn't come back the same and it might have to do with alien inside him.
I thought the writing was great. My favorite character was Scout and I thought his childlike innocence and his responses to life on earth was really refreshing. I was interested in the world he came from and found it fascinated. I couldn't understand how defensive Emma got about his world. Obviously he comes from a very advance society therefore his world would be better. Oh well, I guess that is just me.
As I mention before the book is pretty fast paced which I enjoyed but it might have been too fast. I understand that certain scenarios had to happen in order to move the story along but some defied belief. The scene with acquiring the fully loaded disguisable van in the middle of nowhere was one of those "oh really" moments.
Overall I really did like this book and couldn't put it down. I would recommend this book for any sci-fi fan.
