| ![]() My rating: 4 of 5 stars Toss up between 4 & 5 stars for this one. I gotta say I was kinda confused in the beginning. I thought I missed a page or something and had to go back and start over. Other than the few confusions I had in throughout the start of each issue, the story kept me very much interested. It's very much a twisted and horrific tale. I would not recommend it to the faint of heart. Seriously, some f-up $h!t went down with the characters in this volume. I literally was thinking, "Neil Gaiman you write for children!" On that note, kids should never read this graphic novel which is weird because I heard about Sandman from the YA book "The astonishing adventures of fanboy and goth girl" by Barry Lyga. The characters in that book went on and on about the Sandman which really piqued my interest. Before I go on about another novel The Sandman delivers a very unique tale that will capture any fans of the horror genre. View all my reviews |
I have been on a graphic novel kick lately and wanted to embark on reading the BEST of the BEST. Sandman was mention quite often and I saw it on a bunch of top ten lists as being one of the best graphic novels. First published in 1991 this novel has had a long shelf life. I thought maybe it might be too dated but that was clearly not the case. The artistry and story felt fresh and very much unique. Below is my 4 platypire review of The Sandman Vol 1. Preludes and Nocturnes by Neil Gaiman.
