When Beth Michaels hightailed it out of the hole-in-the-road town she grew up in, she only had two goals. One—get as far away as quickly as possible, and two—never set foot in her parent’s home again. But when she receives a heart breaking call from her childhood best friend, Jen, she has no choice but to turn her ’56 Ford pickup back in the direction of Salem, Missouri to attend a funeral.
There’s a new local in town when Beth arrives, and suddenly, it ain’t all that easy for her to remember her rules for dating.
#1. Cookie-cutter-perfect guys ain’t her type.
#2. Tie wearin’ and church frequentin’ is an automatic dismissal.
#3. Most importantly, never date anyone from small minded, conservative, Bible-thumping towns like Salem.
Unfortunately, Matthew Wright breaks all her rules and then some.
Matt might be from a small town and have small town values, but that doesn’t mean he fits into a little slot of Beth’s preconceived notions. After all, ever so often good guys are good. Now if he could just convince Beth to let go of her past and give him a chance, he’s pretty sure there’s a whole lotta sweet under that prickly exterior.
His own … Sweet Contradiction.
SARA's REVIEW:
Then there's the very close relationship she had with Jen, her best friend from childhood. As I read the interactions between the two, it felt very authentic and real, and it came across quite well in the book, and I thought that both of them were lucky to have the other as a friend.
Of course, there is Elizabeth's romantic interest, Matt Wright. What I can say about him is that I fell in love with him as a reader from the moment he's introduced, and the the romance that developed between the two felt like it grew organically at just the right pace without coming across as being forced or rushed. Because of that, I really thought that they made a great couple.
Overall, for a fast read, I thought this book had a lot of depth which drew me in to the story, and kept my attention through the book. I'd recommend this to those readers who like sweet romances.
My rating is 5/5 platypires.

SWEET CONTRADICTION by Peggy Martinez is absolutely charming. I was worried in the beginning if I was going to be able to get thought it when the first chapter started with such a powerful image. I have to warn you that there are touches of abusive situations in the beginning but I hope that it does not deter you from this gem. Once I powered though the first chapter I was hooked.
Elizabeth left home when she was eighteen and never looked back for four years until her best friend calls and needs her. This is where we meet Beth’s best friend Jen. These two are something else. The relationship between these two is powerful and they get each other. As a woman, you hope for a friend like Jen. I loved that Beth and Jen’s relationship was built upon the whole story and was not overlooked. I was really connected to both Beth and Jen because of their connection to each other. I think this is why I found Sweet Contradiction so enjoyable. There is an influential, sweet, romantic love story but Beth never loses sight of her friend needing her.
Then, Matt comes on the scene and he is adorable and sweet and everything that Beth tries to avoid in a man. Matt is endearing. Lots of fun small, country town things happen. Some drama and some things in life that are unavoidable happen but I found myself rooting for all of them. Matt’s family was the opposite of Beth’s and there is a scene by the lake with just Beth that brings so much into focus. I loved it.
Well written and totally enjoyable, Sweet Contradiction hit its’ mark with me. I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the series and I would strongly recommend it.
SWEET CONTRADICTION receives 5 out of 5 Platypires.

EXCERPT and TEASERS:
EXCERPT from Sweet Contradiction:
“You know, I’m beginning to think you’re stalking me.”
I whipped around, my eyes wide in surprise. What were the odds? I rolled my eyes and clucked my tongue.
“Don’t you wish, Matthew Wright?”
He was grinning crookedly at me, an almost-full basket of apples in his hand. “You know, if you’d just text
me your agenda each day, we could just carpool to all these places instead of running into each other. Save gas.” He
shrugged.
I laughed loudly. Matthew Wright was something else. “Is that your way of asking for my telephone number?
You could’ve just asked,” I said with a cocky smirk.
Matt walked closer and sat his basket on the ground nearby. “Would you have given it to me?” he asked, his
voice low and serious.
I inhaled sharply, realizing the error of my ways. I didn’t want to lead him on. He was an amazing guy. I frowned.
“Hey, looks like you’ve still got some pickin’ to do.” He picked my basket up off of the ground to carry it along
with his.
I blew out a breath of relief. He’d changed the subject, and I was grateful. I reached up on my tippy toes to get
an apple just out of reach.
Matt came up behind me and reached out next to me, his arm skimming mine, his body heat enveloping me. He
reached the apple easily, plucked it off the tree, and held it out to me.
I smiled shyly and wrapped my fingers around the fruit. Matt didn’t let go right away. His eyes captured mine,
and I held my breath. He leaned in just a bit, just enough to make my heart pitter-patter in my chest.
“I’m going to kiss you, Elizabeth Michaels.” He made his intentions clear and even though I knew I should shut
him down, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Both of our hands were still wrapped around the apple when his lips met mine. He feathered a tender kiss
across my lips, tasting and teasing just a little. The apple dropped to the ground between us, forgotten. Matt wrapped
his arms around me and held me as he kissed me gently, like he hadn’t a care in the world except getting to know how
well we went together.
I was surprised to learn that we went together very, very well.
