Synopsis
A riveting story about love and loss, about growing up and growing old—and about those who don't get to do either because death comes for them before their time—Joyland is Stephen King at the peak of his storytelling powers. With all of the emotional impact of King masterpieces such as The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption, Joyland is at once a mystery, a horror story, and a bittersweet coming-of-age novel, one that will leave even the most hard-boiled reader profoundly moved.
My Review
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
3 1/2 Platypires for Joyland by Stephen King
I would never consider myself an avid Stephen King reader. The works that I have read were quite enjoyable. I guess I wasn't expecting a coming of age story based on the synopsis and the book cover. I guess that is my fault and I thought the story dragged at times.
As far as the mystery aspect of the story it was sorta lackluster but the coming of age part was okay. I did like the characters and did learn quite a bit about amusement parks.
Overall this was an okay read and would recommend it for the die hard Stephen King fans.
