This book was told as a collection of journals and articles about the famous exploits of a group seeking to prove the validity of a series of fanciful exploration stories. The style and content are reminiscent of many classics like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 days. It is set in an alternate early steampunk setting with proper English gentry, uncouth colonials and scandalous rogues. Being an alternate timeline, I of course expected differences with actual historical events. Still, I had a few issues, mostly being how some of the territorial ownership and city names were set up given the failure of the American Revolution and English domination in both military might and political power. I would love to see a history to this alternate timeline as well as some maps. I think most readers would take the story as given and not over-indulge in backstory. The plot and storyline are well done and kept me interested throughout the whole book and I look forward to the next installment.
