I truly love this series. I love how each story evolves with every new book. I feel as if I've watched these characters grow up, and can't wait to see where their tale leads next. True to form, this author draws us into his world, and shows us impossible things in ways that seem ... plausible. The battle sequences are vivid and intense, easy to visualize in your mind's inner movie. The emotions are raw and the characters are real, flawed, and complex. People I'd both want to know and never want to meet. I particularly enjoyed the conversation between Xander and a troubled teen he met in a park. Good stuff.
However, unlike it's predecessors, this book had several issues of oft-repeated words in the same paragraphs, as well as some strange phrasing. One example: the expression "that faithful day" came up two or three times, instead of fateful day. This book also featured some strange formatting, using lots of caps and bold letters. I understand what the author was going for, but it did pull me from the story several times. Despite that, the plot itself was still incredible enough to make this book worth it.
As such, I rate this book 4 platypires!
