My Review
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
3 1/2 Platypires for Trade Me by Courtney Milan
I have mixed emotions about Trade Me. On one hand I thought it was an enjoyable story but on the other hand, I felt it was too issue-driven. I feel peculiar even making that statement. I am an unabashed supporter of most of the issues mention in the book (poverty & immigration). Basically, I am down for the cause and raising my fist along with the MC. Yet, this was a romance book and not a social awareness one. I felt some of the romance was lost by trying to push the social issues onto the reader. I missed feeling the pull between the characters and the drive that they needed to be with each other. Don’t get me wrong, they did have some desire towards each other but personally, I wish the story had more chemistry.
Now that being said, I did like the story and plan to read more from the author. I actually really enjoyed her author note after the book where she explains her research process. I thought that was really insightful.
Overall this is a book that I would recommend for others to read.
