I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Amusing note... while listening to the first book in this series, my Pandora app came on right as Sabin was about to start singing. So I was super excited, because I thought he was actually going to sing. Then I realized it was just my music app, and I was disappointed.
...and then I heard that exact thing was actually going to happen in this version. Not only that, but I had forgotten I signed up for an audiobook review of it. A day or two after it was released, I got an email with my copy. I'm considering it a Christmas present to myself from my past self.
After the ending of Left Drowning, I honestly didn't think Jessica Park could do justice to a sequel. I knew it would be good, because I have adored every single thing of hers I've read, but I didn't expect the same sort of feelings I had for the first book. And, although I was correct in assuming it would be very different, I should have known better than to assume this book would not be up to the standards of the last one. No offense to Left Drowning, but I loved the hell out of this book.
Sabin was my favorite character, so having a story that focuses more on him just made it that much better. I was worried about some things, I shan't say because spoilers and whatnot, but I can say that I was pleasantly surprised by the way everything turned out.
Also, very important to note, Troy (who sang the parts for Sabin) was fantastic. It definitely added an additional element of awesome to the story.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm quite fond of Arielle DeLisle's narration of Blythe. I heard she's also done the narration for another of Jessica Park's books (Clear), so I'm going to have to give that one a listen as well.
Highly recommend this series. Reading them is great, but the audio version is an extra level of epicness that you need to experience.
