SYNOPSIS:

Young love is always perfect. Until it's not.

Cheyenne Grady is a total daddy's girl to her bad-ass father, the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club. She's funny, and kind, and she just wants that deep, earth-shattering love like her dad has with her school secretary, Holly. But Cheyenne's been looking in the wrong direction, because the only good that can come from the way she looks at Jeremy Whelan is a lesson in heartbreak.

Jeremy always wanted to prospect for the Forsaken Motorcycle Club and wear the same patch as his father. When a life-long dream becomes reality, Jeremy realizes that the outlaw lifestyle is not for the faint of heart. Nor is it easy on relationships. He wants to be a good man, but temptation is everywhere.

Cheyenne is beautiful, and strong, and exactly what Jeremy could have forever. As long as he doesn't screw it up.

Love is never more powerful than the first time.

RENEE'S REVIEW

I was gifted the ARC from the author (thank you) in exchange for a honest review.

Crush by JC Emery is a novella in the Bayonet Scares series.  Crush starts out with just that. With two kids having a crush on each other.  The difference with a regular everyday crush and a crush when your part of a MC is a little intense, or at least it can be. When you spend your whole life around a lifestyle like this, it is all you know. It has always been a dream of Jeremy's to be a part of the motorcycle club, he wanted the brotherhood, and to make his dad proud.

Cheyenne has always been popular in school and dated mostly jocks with the occasional band geek. She is beautiful and has a smart mouth.  She has also grown up around the club all of her life.  Her dad is the Sargent-at-Arms for the Forsaken Motorcycle Club.  Even with her growing up around the club, she has been sheltered from most of what really went on inside that clubhouse most of the time.

These two are attracted to each other but they are more worried about Cheyenne's dad and other club members will think and do, that they really can't be together. With that problem along with communication problems and all the crap still going on with the Italian's in club, things are just intense and they don't seem to be able to be able to get on the same page.

Coming of age and falling in love for the first time would be hard enough on it's on but in front of hard ass bikers is a nightmare. Especially when you an 18 year old guy trying to be one of those hard ass bikers yourself.  You can't show any sign of weakness, you can't refuse any of the "lost girls" when your not in a true relationship.  When the club throws a New Years Eve party/ birthday party for Jeremy and Cheyenne sneaks in lots of things are seen. Feelings are hurt, innocence lost, and something's just can't be undone.

We all thought we were grown at 17 and 18 years old. We might have been graduated from high school and legally able to vote, but were we really grown?  I sure thought I was, but my emotions and feeling weren't even mature yet.  You learn so much in your early 20's.  These two seem to learn a lot over a few months, growing up in that environment, I'm sure I would grow up quicker too. I loved the way Jeremy wanted to protect Cheyenne.  She was always his biggest cheerleader too.

I give Crush 4 platypires
or 4 stars, if you like those better!

SYNOPSIS:
Even salvation can be delivered through the love of the damned…

Beauty can be a curse.

Faith can be a cage.

Only love can set you free.

A few long weeks after being reluctantly ripped from the comforting embrace of her sacred prophet’s religious commune—the only life she has ever known—a terrified Delilah is thrust into a world enveloped by evil and swimming in sin.

Steadfastly devout in her faith, and retaining the deep belief that her soul is innately tarnished as a branded ‘Cursed woman of Eve’, Delilah is determined to find her way home to her people in The Order and away from the corrupt and damned outlaw motorcycle club—The Hades Hangmen—who hold her at their secluded compound for her protection—a 'protection' she strongly resents.

Delilah yearns to return home, convinced that only amongst her own people, and under the holy guidance of the Lord’s revealed prophet, can her Satan-spawned soul be truly saved. Conditioned her entire life to believe she is a witch... a life-long temptress… the devil’s whore... Delilah increasingly resents her beautiful face, her shapely body and her sensuous effect on men. But when a man of the motorcycle club—a deeply sinful yet stunningly beautiful man—is charged with her care, Delilah begins to see that this dangerous and moralless sinner from the 'outside' may offer her something she did not know could truly exist: unconditional love.

Kyler ‘Ky’ Willis loves his life: a daily abundance of brotherhood, liquor, the freedom of the open-road and—best of all—his pick of hot women. Raised a biker brat and now VP of the most notorious MC in the States, Ky has no shortage of club sluts warming his bed; a situation he takes full advantage of… until a certain blonde enters his life… a gorgeous pilgrim-blonde he can’t get out of his head… a pilgrim-blonde he and his club recently-rescued from some backward religious cult… and a pilgrim-blonde he’s been ordered to keep the hell away from and his whorish hands off.

When yet another in a lengthy line of drunken blunders forces Ky to reluctantly take charge of the pilgrim-blonde’s care, he realizes that there could be more to this woman than just supermodel looks and a stacked set of tits. He begins to see that she could be the woman who could do the impossible—tame his wild ways and capture his reluctant heart.

But the unyielding bonds of Lilah’s past are strong, her ‘people’ determined and, with a new Prophet in charge and hell bent on revenge, they are mightily reluctant to let her go...

Dark Contemporary Romance.

RENEE'S REVIEW

I was gifted this book by the author (thank you) in exchange for an honest review.

Heart Recaptured by Tillie Cole is one of those books! Fellow reviewers, you know when you sign up for that book you really really wanted. You read it and wow, it was everything you expected and more. Now your suppose to write a review and it was so deep and dark.... just heavy- you don't even know where to start. Nothing you say will even come close to giving this book justice. Yeah that's where I am right now!

Tillie Cole is exceptional, well that is an understatement.  She weaves stories that make you stop and think is this Poe or Cole,? She so eloquently puts together two complete opposites and she forces them together. No matter who likes it, these two are forced to be together.  One being from a religious cult, that knows nothing of the outside world. Brainwashed to teachings of being cursed just because of her beauty. The other is a notorious outlaw, all he has ever known is a life of hell raising, he is twisted in more ways than one. How can these two stand to be together?

Delilah, poor Delilah, she was ripped from the only home she ever known, she is so devout in her faith. She knows she doomed to a life banned as a "cursed woman".  She stills holds fast to her beliefs and wants to return to life in the compound. Her beauty is her curse and Delilah resents it more and more each day. She is put in the care of Ky one of the motorcycle club men for her protection.  She starts to see little by little that maybe she could be loved.

Ky is used to a take what I want attitude when it comes to women, they never have mattered to him. He has used them for his release. That's all women were good for, that is the way he was taught to be. When he is put in charge of Delilah's care, he starts to change.  He has been ordered not to touch her but he can't quit thinking about her. She is a backwoods religious cult pilgrim and he starts to see there is so much more to her than her stunningly good looks.

It is really hard to change the way you were raised when you were raised in a normal healthy home.  I can't even imagine being brainwashed and raped, thinking you were cursed just because you were beautiful.  This would be so hard to overcome, Cole did an excellent job with the character emotions.  You felt how scared she was and how she really didn't want to defy her faith. Cole's character development is extraordinary, she has layered these guys in this story, Cole draws you in this story and holds you there until the last word.

I give Heart Recaptured 5 Platypire
or 5 stars however you like to count things!

SYNOPSIS:
The boy she loved has now become the man she despises...

Fashion designer Quinn Daniels has been in love with tattoo artist Zane Wilson for over half her life. When they were younger he only had eyes for one girl, and it wasn’t her. But for the last seven years he’s been hers, and it’s been perfect. Two months ago that all changed. His girl from the past showed up, and he left with her. Now he’s back, and wants another chance, but trusting him almost destroyed her once. She’s not ready to make the same mistake again.

His heart’s been broken, and only one woman can put it back together again...

Zane Wilson loves Quinn Daniels more than life itself. Yeah he was a stupid teenager, and thought he was in love with the wrong girl, but that all changed seven years ago. He let Quinn go once so she could pursue her dreams, and again when he thought he was doing the right thing. But he’s done making mistakes, and letting his past interfere with the present and future he wants with her. Now he just needs to convince her that she’s the only woman he’s ever truly loved, and that he’s never going to leave her again.

A secret heartache could break them up for good—or make them stronger than ever...

Just when it looks like they may have a second chance at love, the other woman comes to town again, and this time she’s not alone. Zane’s going to need help this time, because it’s not just Quinn he’s fighting for. Can she help him heal while still protecting herself?

This is a novella and not a full length book.

RENEE'S REVIEW

This book was gifted to me from the author (thank you) in exchange for an honest review.

Designing The Love is the fifth installment in the Griffin Brother's series. This is a novella that follows Zane and Quinn, friends of the Griffins.  We meet them both in Perkins first novel, so they aren't new characters, we are just getting to know them better.

As with all good relationships, communication is a key component to is be successful. Well someone needs to tell this group of people! Secrets and people from their past tear them apart. Lies keep them apart and this time it's not about taking sides, this time is about listening.  This is a great book to remind us things aren't always the way they seem to be.  That we should be willing to listen to the other person's side of the story instead of running away!

Thankfully Perkins always promises us a happily ever after.  I only shed a few tears and I only have one more book until I'm completely caught up for Perkins new series that come out in January!

I give Designing the Love 4 Platypires
or 4 stars whichever strikes your fancy!

She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn't expect him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.

That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts . . .

Is that what she’s supposed to do?

Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?

Renee's Review

Landline is the second book that I've read by Rainbow Rowell.  Rowell has a writing side all of her own. I'm not sure if I understand it or if I'm just not on her level of coolness. The first book I read was Fangirl, I didn't connect very well with that book and I chalked it up to it being a YA novel.  This novel I would classify as woman's fiction or maybe contemporary so I thought this would be the that would pull me in and make me that loyal fan.

I really enjoyed Rowell writing style and how much nostalgia she put in this novel, I felt drew back to my teens and early twenties. Her characters were entertaining and dialog between them was really smooth and easy to follow.  Her description of  the setting was great, I could put myself right there along Georgie.  I felt Georgie's pain that she was going through. Rowell does everything right on all of those accounts.

I just could not connect with the story itself.  What I do understand is that she is a worker bee!  She puts her work before her family. So, they just take off without her for Christmas vacation. She chooses to stay behind to work??? With me being a mom, there is no way in this world, I would choose to not be with my children at Christmas.  I can't even phantom this.  No matter the state of my job or the state my relationship with their father, I'm going to be with my children.... forget the man.

This is about saving your marriage, I get that too. So during this time of separation, Georgie has a epiphany about her relationship with her husband from the start, as in from the first time she saw him.  She relives this through the book. She is not effective at work, hell she can't take care of her own basic needs.  She never as she is going through this, just tells her co-workers screw you guys, or I will Skype with you guys about this! Go fix it!! So, she connects to the past in a weird way.  She figures out the Why in her relationship.

To me, I just feel like something was missing, something I didn't get. Maybe over my head?  I sure would hope not! I know this will not be a popular review, and haters will hate! So, go ahead and vote it down, I have a right to my opinion too.

I give Landline 3 Platypires

SYNOPSIS:

Colleen Hoover, the New York Times bestselling author of Maybe Someday brilliantly brings to life the story of the wonderfully hilarious and charismatic Warren in a new novella, Maybe Not.

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Or maybe not.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.

Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?

Maybe.   Maybe not

RENEE'S REVIEW

Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover is to be read after Maybe Someday.  It starts a little before Maybe Someday and it focuses of Warren and Bridgett.  It lets us  see the dynamics of their ummm..... "relationship".

There is plenty of sexual tension between these two, and they are enemies! Brennan (Ridge's brother) let's Bridgett move in with the guys and at first Warren is mad. He doesn't want to share his bathroom or anything else really. That is until he gets one look at Bridgett, he suddenly becomes very hospital. He wants to know if Brennan is interested in her....

...... You have to be honest with me, because I think you might be in love with her and I need you to tell me you’re not, because I think I might want to kiss her. And touch her. A lot. Like, everywhere.”......

The thing he had yet to consider is that she is a total bitch.....

......“She slams the door shut without saying please or thank you or goodbye. And even though she’s the most inconsiderate person I’ve ever met in real life, I can’t stop smiling. I think we may have just bonded.”

Even though this is a novella Hoover packs it full, two people a lot alike falling in love but fighting it every step of the way....

...... “She's nothing I've ever wanted in a girl. And absolutely everything I need.”.....

Both of these kids are stubborn and hardheaded, but sometimes love will find a way, maybe or  maybe not! You didn't think I would tell you did you?  Can't give a spoiler, but I will leave you with this....

.......“The only difference between falling in love and being in love is that your heart already knows how you feel, but your mind is too stubborn to admit it.”

RENEE'S REVIEW

This book was gifted to me by the author (thank you) in exchange for an honest review.

Learning to Love by Crystal Perkins is the fourth book in the Griffin Brothers series.  Learning to Love is a story about just that younger adults learning what it is to be in a real relationship.  Learning how to nurture a relationship, talk to each other, and honestly care for each other.

Luke is the youngest Griffin brother, he has always lived in his brothers shadows. Scott is the smartest, Ryan has the most athletic, and Owen, well he is the life of the party.  He has felt like he's never lived up to the Griffin name.  He doesn't want to be part of the family business, instead he wants to be a teacher.

Oliver has always tried to live up to her parents expectations. She is a good girl, she pays her own way in school, she is working, and pays for her own apartment.  She does everything in her power to show them that she lives up to their high standards but they still look down on her.

About a year ago, Luke and Olivia was in an unusual situation at a bar that made Olivia think poorly of Luke.  When Olivia needs help in English and gets a tutor, she isn't very happy to see that it is Luke.  Luke has change his playboy ways since the last time they saw each other.  He wants a chance to show her how much he has changed and thinks this tutoring gig just might do the trick.

They soon start dating, but not without communication problems. Then with her overbearing parents, things can get pretty sticky. Feeling can get hurt real fast and bad decisions make things even worst.  These kind of things happen with young love, especially when you still feel like your under your parents thumb.  Then when secrets come out and it still seems like decisions are being made that will hurt them both.  All of these problems can be solved with communication!! If there is one thing common about these Griffin boys, besides being very loyal, is that they are stubborn and hard headed.

Tears will fall when you read this novel. The good thing with Perkins, she always promises to leave us with a happily ever after.

I give Learning to Love 5 Platypires

RENEE'S REVIEW

I was gifted this book from the author (thank you) in exchange for an honest review.

Whistlin' Dixie by Maggie Adams, is full of southern charm and dialect. Who doesn't love a little spit-fire?Dixie, a five foot nothing kindergarten teacher is just that. She is full of sass and she doesn't let anyone push her or her brother for that matter. Mac is determined to rebuild the town from a flood that pretty much destroyed it. You put these two together and you get "sparks" in the form of sexual tension.

I love a good southern story, with all the good sayings and dialect. I grew up in Alabama, at the foothills of Appalachian Mountains (for real no jokes!) and Dixie grew up in a small valley with the mountains  surrounding her.  So, reading about that in this book was really neat.  Adams got all the dialect right in this book, she didn't try to over do the southern drawl.

I loved Dixie right away, just looking at the cover- I fell in love with this book.  It just screams, I'm a girl full of sass and I'm not going to take any of your crap! That is very fitting of Dixie, you just can't help but love her. I love reading about strong women who doesn't let a little thing like height get in their way, she doesn't let only being 21 raising her 16 year old brother by herself either.  I love her playful banter she has with her brother and with Mac sometimes too.

Mac is swoon worthy, Dixie makes sure we know that. He comes across as stubborn and headstrong at first. When you see he position you see why, He runs the family construction business and he has a job to do.  His work is being hindered by a vandal.  So, he doesn't have time for games or hmmm to have his mind wander like it does when she is around.

Adams opens up herself by introducing us to several secondary characters, so I forward to see a lot more from Maggie Adams in the future!  This is a sweet but spicy romance story.  There were a few grammatical errors but I really don't judge a book by that, I judge it by the story. (We aren't teachers grading papers psh)

I give Whistlin Dixie 4 platypires
that's 4 stars to most of you.

RENEE'S REVIEW

This book was giving  to me by the author (thank you) in exchange for an honest review.

Rev is the 3rd book in JC Emery's Bayonet Scares series. This series is about a motorcycle club vs. the mafia, but that is just an element of the story.  Emery was more going on in each book than just fight, motorcycles and black sedans.  Each of these book have a love story, these tough motorcycle dudes and the women who fall for them.

This story follows school secretary Holly, who just moved back to town and Grady, the Sargent-at Arms for the club. Holly is assigned as sort of a counselor for Cheyenne, Grady's daughter.  Holly  tries multiple times to get in touch with Grady by phone over Cheyenne's behavior and grades, but he just hangs up on her. So Holly, is a little spit fire   herself, not known for making great choices, goes to their house to confront Grady. Who does this woman think she is going to a Forsaken members house?  Grady is beyond pissed, but she amused him. he thought it was funny to get her all riled up.  They soon find themselves tangled up into a mess, isn't that how all good relationships start?

Emery really pushed some limits with this book.  She was really graphic and when Holly had enough in one scene, the sheer determination that Emery described and the description of that scene, shows how seasoned of a writer Emery really is.  I have never read a book that was like this, I've always stuck with romance and woman's fiction, with a little suspense and thriller mixed in to round it out.  Even in the suspense and thriller novels I read were not this riveting. Could you imagine if she did write thrillers??? Mind blown!

This so far was the best of the series, you do still need to read the other to know what is going on but this one right here gets my GOLD STAR! I will be talking about this book with my review friends/book friends. That says a lot when you read 20 or more books a month, you tend not to talk about many of them.

I give REV by JC Emery 5 Platypires
or stars however you like to count!

Thrash by J.C. Emery is the second book in Bayonet Scares Series, it is about the Forsaken Motorcycle.  This is to be read after Ride, I really don't think it can be read as a standalone book. This book mostly takes place at the same time as Ride but you get to see the "clubs" view on things.

Nicole  Whelan has always been a lost girl in the Forsaken Motorcycle Club and that is the way she sees herself being forever. Her mother was a lost girl, after all Now her mother has up and left them, the only dad she has ever known, is in prison, she has been left to raise her teenage brother. This makes her life way too complicated to deal with to have any chance at a real relationship. So, been a lost girl, doing the casual hook up thing is okay with her. That is until Duke. Don't you love that name? Duke is a strong manly name!!! It just oozes sex!

There has been a lot of crap happening in the club lately, Duke is watching his best friend fall in love for the only girl he couldn't have. This made his own loneliness hit him square in the face! Being in the club these guys go about doing thing a little different than most men. They have to keep up that "front" and not let anyone see them on the inside. Nichole, has walls built up herself and Duke is determine that he is going to break through them, even if it's one brick at a time.

Their relationship is on shaky ground and with so much crap going on in the club, that Duke thinks he needs to take care of himself, Nic is feeling like he is not good for her. He is not there for her at a critical time. They have real communication issues, but doesn't a lot of couple these day! These two are stubborn and hard headed. Perfect for each other, but can they get around these issues and just see how perfect they are for each other?

RENEE'S REVIEW

I was gifted this book from the publisher (thank you) in exchange for a honest review.

Hiding Out by Nicole Andrews Moore, is a book about facing your fears and turning your life around. What do you do when you have hit rock bottom and you have no where else to turn? When your a loner, without a family and you have a dark secret, I know what I would do, I would do the same thing Haley did, run! Get the heck out of Dodge, as they day.

Haley is a loner, sudden noises sets her off and makes her nervous.  She tries not to draw any attention to herself from guys. She dresses down, dyes her, she doesn't want to be found, she is hiding out.  Using a fake name she settles herself in New York City and takes a temp. job.  She is way over qualified for this job but she thinks this is her best option to hide. out.

Sam runs the family advertising business and he realizes that his temporary assistant Haley has something going on but he can't put his finger on it. He is wealthy and practically the most eligible bachelor of NYC. He comes across to be in complete control, and seems cold and always gets his way. He takes his job serious, and Hailey is really good at her job.  Sam is ready to make a change in his life, a different type of woman is what he is looking for now!

I loved the flow of this book and I fell head over hills for Sam! He was really swoon worthy!  Ms. Moore does an outstanding job in her character development, they were believable and lovable. This book was a page turner.  I glad to see a strong woman in a book, that is what I see Haley as, even being nervous, scared, and running, she was still a strong woman.  She did what she needed to do in order to protect herself, that's strong in my book!  I really want book 2 now!!
