SYNOPSIS:

Death comes in Armani. Salvation comes in leather.

Principessa to the Mancuso crime family, Alexandra knows a thing or two about living outside the bounds of the law. Suffocated by the future her father has laid out for her, she makes a choice she can't take back, changing the entire trajectory of her life.

Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.

Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn’t allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn’t dare cross.

Love is never more tempting than when it’s forbidden.

RENEE'S REVIEW

I was gifted this book from the author (thank you) in exchange for an honest review.

Ride by JC Emery, wow!  Why haven't I known about these books before??? Why hasn't anyone told me about JC? I went to Houston Book Rave a few weeks back, I was walking around, introducing myself to authors I didn't know yet. I walked up to Ms. Emery's table, there was three ladies sitting there. I didn't know who was the author and who the other two were.  That never matters to me, I treat everyone the same anyway.  So, I sign up for the tour she has coming up, take a picture and go on my way.  I got on the tour and got the previous books in the series and I'm hooked! I'm a new fan for life!!! Now for the review.

Ride by JC Emery was just that one wild ride. So many twist and turns happens in this book, it kept me hanging on the edge of my seat.  Emery does a phenomenal job with these characters and her descriptions of the motorcycle club functions, would really make you think she is in one herself.

Alex is the daughter of a mob boss, a pampered princess but she knows a lot about "stuff". She makes a spilt minute decision that not only puts her life in danger but changes it forever. She suddenly finds herself in the middle of a dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club. She is there for her protection, and the rumble of the bikes soothe her nerves. Right away, she notices a HOT guy that only dreams are made of!! He is in leather, tatted up, oh the way he kisses her makes her melt.  To bad this is between them is forbidden. Say what??

Ryan, yes he is hot and has had any "lost girl" he every wanted. He is third-generation Forsaken and being groomed to take the reigns one day from his Pa. The club life is all he has ever known and it is what he loves.
Life inside a motorcycle club is different and how they treat women is different, I think this is one of the reasons why Alex is off limits to the guys of the club. She is family and the "princess", so they didn't want her treated like one of the "lost girls". Ryan is a total ass to her, I believe he is this way so he doesn't get to close to her. He knows if he shows her how he truly feels, it will only bring them trouble.

There are some secrets going on here and some twist, things you don't know that is going on. I was surprised anyway.  I highly recommend this book for anyone who like MC novels but also who likes spicy hot romances! Mafia Vs. MC! Who couldn't love that?

I give Ride 5 Platypires
or flaming hot stars however you like to count things!

RENEE'S REVIEW

This book was gifted to me by the publisher (thank you) for an honest review.

Saving Grace by Scarlett Jade is a beautiful story about coming-of-age for a young lady.  A story about how precious and beautiful life can be.  The character development was well written.  The reader felt the pain and anguish that each of the main characters felt. Ms. Jade made you want to help,  be there for them, she made me care for them and cry for them.

Grace is not so different from any girl heading off to college for the first time.  At least, no different than any teenage girl who has never really lived. You know where your nervous and excited at the same time. A teenage girl who is expected to act and do and live exactly like her parents think she should.  Once arriving at college and meeting her new roommate Christina, Grace decides it is time for her to make some changes in her life.  A new haircut, and some new clothes work some amazing magic.  Christina teaches Grace that it is ok to be different; after all, Christina is her own free spirit! (I've always told this to my children, and I think all parents should)  A person does not have to fit into a little box to be likeable or considered beautiful.  Why does society or the media get to dictate what is considered beautiful?

Grace goes with Christina to a bar the weekend before classes start and Grace meets a man.  Things spiral quickly out of control.  Is Grace really an adult?  Is Grace really capable of handling herself in the situation she finds herself in?  Grace finds that she has to spread her wings to find herself; not what everyone else wants her to be.

It is Drake that Grace meets that first night at the bar.  Drake?  thinks he is a very good looking guy!! Poor Grace, how was she to know that Drake was in fact her college professor?  Talk about trouble! Can we say FORBIDDEN ROMANCE!!! Wanting something you can't have.  The journey for Drake and Grace is dangerous for them; as they both quickly learn.  When Grace looks to her mom for support, she learns some secrets that she never would have imagined.

Argh....cliff hanger....to be continued....?  (I need book 2 please!)  In the end, a happily-ever-after could still be possible.

I give Saving Grace 4 Platypires
or 4 beautiful stars, however you like to count thing!

RENEE'S REVIEW

Crash Into Me by Tracy Wolff, wow who doesn't like a good rocker boy story?  She give you one great Shanken Dirty tour! Oh me oh my, I'm late in the game, but I have joined the  groupie bandwagon! These guy are rock gods, badass, tattooed guys that can have any woman or man that they want!  Hot doesn't even start to describe these guys.  Was Tracy ever a groupie herself or a member of a band? She seemed to get it right, or at least what I perceive would be right!

Jamison has always been the "mascot" of the band, Jared little sister, nothing else. She had watched the band practice in the garage when they were just starting out. She had always had a crush on Ryder but she had always been just a" little sister" to him, being Jared's best friend. Jamison is down on her luck, and with Jared being big brother always taking care of her insists that she comes on tour with the band!

Ryder has had a whole year that has been complete hell for him. When Jamison surprises the boys after a concert a day early, Ryder finds her being attacked backstage by another rock star and he basically loses his sh*t on the guy!  Well Jamison has grown up very nice and she is very vulnerable right now. When Ryder bends down and scoops her up, well something clicks for both of them.

She has been ruled by big brother Jared that she is hands-off! That the band is there to watch and protect baby sister! Every time she is near Ryder the sexual tension is on high! She promises Jared she would stay away from Ryder. Ryder gives his word that he will not touch Jamison.

Wolff does an amazing job making you love these boys and Jamison. You just want more of them and to see where this band goes from here. I loved that this was told from dual point of views. Ryder's view on things just made me swoon, I love him. I love broken boys.

I give Crash Into Me 4 Platypires
or 4 stars however you like to count things!

SYNOPSIS:
For more than a decade, Jenna Metcalf has never stopped thinking about her mother, Alice, who mysteriously disappeared in the wake of a tragic accident. Refusing to believe that she would be abandoned as a young child, Jenna searches for her mother regularly online and pores over the pages of Alice’s old journals. A scientist who studied grief among elephants, Alice wrote mostly of her research among the animals she loved, yet Jenna hopes the entries will provide a clue to her mother’s whereabouts.

Desperate to find the truth, Jenna enlists two unlikely allies in her quest. The first is Serenity Jones, a psychic who rose to fame finding missing persons—only to later doubt her gifts. The second is Virgil Stanhope, a jaded private detective who originally investigated Alice’s case along with the strange, possibly linked death of one of her colleagues. As the three work together to uncover what happened to Alice, they realize that in asking hard questions, they’ll have to face even harder answers.

As Jenna’s memories dovetail with the events in her mother’s journals, the story races to a mesmerizing finish.

Renee's Review

Jodi Picoult can write any genre she please, she has proven that more than once. She is just phenomenal, she NEVER goes where you think she will. Her characters are rich and layered, that you only get their information a little at a time. I savor every single book Picoult writes.

I'm sure that I can't write a review on Leaving Time and do it any justice. This book has two stories going on simultaneously. One was about a 13 year old girl named Jenna, that is looking for her mom. The other is the back of her mom and dad, and what lead up to them parting.

Jenna gets the help of a washed up detective and a psychic that can't well... talk to the dead anymore. Now that's a trio in it's self. The accident, or whatever happened that lead up to the parting of Jenna and her parents happened when she was 3. I guess she was a brilliant 3 year old because she was really smart even back then... Hmmm.

This trio travel through many twist and turns, with a few hurt feelings and angry words. These two misfits are there for Jenna and truly care about her.

I'm a big Picoult fan always have been and I guess I always will. I bet her to do list is written in secret code and at the very bottom is the answer. I dare say you have to be patient, because Picoult doesn't just write a story for you to read she takes you on a journey.

I give Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult 5 Platypires
I would give her all the stars in the sky if it were possible!

Renee's Review

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review (thank you)

White Chalk by Pavarti K. Tyler is a deep, heavy book. It took a lot out of me and will stay with me forever. It is one of those books that is completely gut wrenching. It pulls every emotion from you, and tears out your heart! I didn't just cry, I ugly cried! Tyler takes you such an emotional ride right along with Chelle.

T
yler's character's have so many layers, but her main character Chelle  gets the shining star.  Chelle is a 13 year old girl with issues to say the very least.   She isn't like other 13 year old girls, she can't allow herself to be that free to feel. Chelle was forced to grow up way too fast. My heart went out to her, her self image really bothered at first. Until her story evolved, I just couldn't understand anyone in those early teen years that down on themselves. Then as Tyler starts to unravel Chelle complicated life, you truly see why and how anyone in her situation would be the same way, if not even worst. Chelle seeks attention anywhere she can find it..  (Isn't this the case in a lot of our young women these days?  This book gave me the desire to do something to encourage our young teenage girls. Give them confidence. I think I'm going to have to research on a way to help.)

Not everyone out there in our world gets tucked in at night, kissed on the check, and mom tells them sweet dreams. It's just a hard fact that in a lot of cases that is just a fairytale to kids, boys or girls. Tyler does a splendid job of letting us see the ugly side of things. Not everything out there (in real life) is all rich guys, fast cars and roses, so why should books be any different. This is more true life than we want to admit.  Just because it isn't happening in your own family doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Tyler should be applauded, she had the guts to write about something out of the norm. Not what's popular right now in books. This isn't what the masses are saying oooh I gotta read! But let me tell you my friend right now, this is a book you should read.  Tyler in my opinion deserves an award! You did an awesome job Pavarti Tyler, this book should be on EVERYONE'S TBR list!

Renee's Review

I was gifted this book by the author in exchange for a fair review ( thank you).

Crewel Work by Natalie Alder was a really good book with really genuine characters.  Alder wrote a really sweet story that is just too good to be missed. Who can resist the pull of that tender first love for a girl! Just beautifully written and so romantic!

J.P. was in love with Audra.  Audra was the most beautiful young woman he had seen; he had practically watch Audra grow up over the last few years.  Audra was kind, caring and compassionate.  J.P. longed to touch her skin, taste her lips, and run his hands through her hair.  However, Audra was off-limits to him.  Audra was the bosses daughter.  J.P. had worked so hard to get where he was but would he would risk it all to be with Audra.

Audra had been lusting after J.P. for years.  Audra was a young 16 when their passion starts to take a turn; J.P. is five years older than her.  J.P. had a gorgeous body and wore his hair just a little longer than most of the farm-hands and he was amazing with the horses.  Audra loved when she ran into him in the stables and they would chat about little things and she could watch him train horses for hours.  No matter how much Audra wants J.P. she has to realize that her father has forbidden her to have a relationship with any of the employees.
As Audra gets older, her desire for J.P. continues to grow and J.P. notices the changes in Audra.  They are pulled together like magnets.  They are meant to be together.  J.P. is worried that he won't be able to resist Audra for much longer.  Considering her age and who her father is he worries how to handle things but decides after her 18th birthday that he can't live without Audra.  J.P. worries that Audra's father will not allow them to date but they both hate sneaking around to try to be together.
This is a story about young love.  There are some twists and turns along with some drama and scary moments, but in the end, love wins out!  When your heart knows it has met its other half, you have to take the chance.  You have to fight for the love you feel you can't live without!

Renee's Review

I can see it now, this book has the makings of a mini-series.  Becoming Calder, by Mia Sheridan is like a fine wine, I had to let it a few day and get a breath before I could write this review. It was deep, dark and completely mind blowing.  I'm really not sure where to even start to give this book a review it deserves. Mia Sheridan is a very talented writer, she has taken this series "Sign of Love" and every book is so unique from the last. This one takes the cake for originality!  This had your suspense, forbidden love, best friend, religion/cult compound, erotica, kid-napping, all in one book.  This all takes place modern day, but the works of the compound have none of the modern conveniences we all take for granted.

This book follows Calder and Eden over a span over years.  The first time Calder sees Eden, she is introduced by Hector (cult leader) as "the Blessed One".  She was about 10 years old, Hector told his congregation that she would be his bride and stand by his side, just as soon as she turned 18 of course. You know he had to keep it all respectable and everything.... nothing creepy there or anything (gag).  Calder has a beautiful heart even as a kid, always doing the right thing. He is a hard worker, and loves his family beyond measure. Eden is an innocent child, scared beyond belief, not allowed to associate with the other children with her being the "Blessed One" and all that and the bag of chips. They catch each others eye several times though the years but their friendship really blossomed when she turned 17. When I say blossomed, I mean fireworks!!! They start meeting at a secret spring and things heat up 1000 degrees or so. They decide they love each other, but they know Hector would kill Calder and punish her, so they will never be together.  See mini-series worthy.

The twists in this book had me gasping, my water works were going full force.  My heart was not only going out to Eden and Calder, but a lot of the secondary characters. Like Calder sister, she melted my heart. Mia did a beautiful job, what more can I say.... It was epic.

Synopsis

You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.
I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.
But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. Then, things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

Stepbrother Dearest is a standalone novel.

**Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+

Renee's Review

This was my first book by  Penelope Ward and it wont be my last. I thought most of the characters were well written, at least the two main one were. The secondary characters (i.e. everyone else) you really don't know much about. It had a good origanal storyline but I felt some part slightly lacking just a little bit, thats not that I didn't like the book because I thought it was really good. There was a lot of sexual tension and forbidden love with a deep, dark, really HOT guy. What else could a girl ask for, right? Ward has a gift of keeping you intrigued just enough, giving you little nuggets of information at a time. She leaves the reader just turning those pages, wanting to know those secrets. When I first saw this book on my facebook page (I follow a lot of other bloggers and tons of authors) all I saw was the teaser. It had the book cover and a blurb from the book.  "If I knock on your door tonight don't let me in your room." So I was like, uh oh, this is gonna be goooood and darrrrk (just drawl that out real southern). I did not even read the synopsis, I was already on my Kindle, I hopped on over to Amazon and one-clicked that baby real fast like I didn't already 150+ books waiting on me to read.

This book wasn't as "dark" as I thought it would be really, yeah they are step-sibling and they um hook up...that song Tainted Love comes to my mine, as I'm sitting here typing this review, great now that will be stuck in my head for days! To me this was about a rude jerk who was   forced to come live with his father and was going to do all it took to make his dad's life a living hell. Elec has issues to say the least and like all teenage boys there are resons for them. H
e and his Pop does NOT get along.  See, I didn't care for Elec at first, he was a mean boy, a bully! He was this way at first. He did end up changing.

Then you have sweet, pure, innocent Greta. Well, She is as innocent as her hormones will let her be any way. I mean a girls gotta look and dream- lust after..oh wait was that me or her, nevermind.  She was a good girl, just like I was at her age (just ask my mom). Her body reacts to him and that is just beyond her control- she can't help that, it has a mind of it's own. Then finally they start connecting, and one night they REALLY connect. Then he ups and leaves back for California, she doesn't see him again for 7 years.
Tradgy stikes, they are forced to face each other again, yada yada yada!
ANGST! All in all, I thought this was a good book!
