The Space Between by Kate Canterbary

SYNOPSIS:

Picture
Some lines are meant to be crossed.

Patrick
That hair. That fucking hair. It was everywhere, always, and I wanted to tangle my fingers in those dark curls and pull. And that would be fine if she wasn't my apprentice.

Andy Asani was nothing like I expected. She was exotic and scary-brilliant, and the slightest murmur from those lips sent hot, hungry lust swirling through my veins. Outside my siblings, she was the only person I could name who shared my obsession with preserving Boston's crumbling buildings.

Andy
My wants were few: good eats, tall boots, hot yoga, interesting work. One incredibly hot architect with the most expressive hazel eyes I ever encountered and entirely too much talent in and out of the bedroom wasn't part of the original plan. Apparently he was part of the package.

Wine was my rabbi and vodka was my therapist, and I needed plenty of both to survive my apprenticeship. Especially with Patrick Walsh leaving love notes in the form of bite marks all over my body.

MEL's REVIEW:

THE SPACE BETWEEN by Kate Canterbary
*was generously given a copy in exchange for an honest review……Thank You

THE SPACE BETWEEN is the second book in THE WALSHES’ series but a complete standalone. Each individual book is centered on one of the five Walsh siblings. THE SPACE BETWEEN follows the oldest son, Patrick and his very beautiful, black haired intern, Andy. As Andy and Patrick desires build towards each other, watch out because steamy scenes and lots of chemistry ensue.

These two characters are hotter than hot together. And even though Andy is hesitant about getting involved, Patrick is her boss after all; the hesitation does not last long. However, they both want to keep everything on the low down until Andy is no longer an intern.  Patrick and Andy are great together and it is fun to watch these two.  Patrick is everything you want in a book boyfriend: Broody, grumpy, sexy, domineering, damaged and BEAUTIFUL.  Andy is tough as nails and does not take any attitude, driven, dedicated, and all around fun.

THE SPACE BETWEEN is fun and light hearted with just enough to keep all entertained. The writing is flawless and always a great read. I would strongly recommend for anyone just needing a great story.

THE SPACE BETWEEN by Kate Canterbary receives 4 out of 5 Platypires.

About the Author:

Kate Canterbary doesn't have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean--Pacific or Atlantic--is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people—be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane—ever since. Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn't writing sexy architects, she's scheduling her days around the region's best food trucks.

WOLFSGATE by Cat Porter
*was generously given a copy in exchange for an honest review… THANK YOU

WOLFSGATE by Cat Porter is a standalone, gut wrenching, and an amazingly wonderful historical romantic fiction novel that I STRONGLY suggest to be added to everyone’s MUST READ list.  I had the good fortune to stumble across this amazing new author when I read her debut novel, LOCK &KEY, which was a MC novel with a twist. I loved it so much and gushed about it for weeks, so when I saw that her next novel was about to be released, I did not even look to see what it was about and just signed up. I was a little worried when I first read the blurb because I normally can never get into historical fiction. I always wind up hating the hero because they are usually full of themselves and the heroine usually whines and has no backbone. NOT THE CASE WITH WOLFSGATE.

I so loved this book. From the first, I was intrigued with why Brandon was in the situation he was in and then Justine was so strong and determined. So many wrongs were done to each of them and I wanted redemption for them both. Somehow, these two miraculous characters find love and each other. I was surprised how much I rooted for both of these two to be together and find who did the wrongs and why.  I was captivated with the story and who was the villain. WOLFSGATE is full of twists and the chemistry between Justine and Brandon is exciting.

I loved WOLFSGATE and it was most definitely a home run for me. I plan on reading anything Cat Porter produces and cannot wait for more from her. Her writing is flawless and is a true artist with her words.

TEASERS and Except:

EXCERPT from WOLSGATE by Cat Porter

The door slammed shut, and a moment later the coach swayed off. The air in the small compartment quickly turned hot and humid.

“Did you enjoy your card game?” Justine asked. “Were you always such an avid player? I suppose your company this evening inspired you.”

Brandon hissed in air and pulled her into his lap with one swift movement. He tugged her legs over his so that she straddled him. Her chest tightened under the fierceness of his eyes and his firm grip. That demanding touch lit a fire inside her, a fire she barely understood. He wrapped a hand around her neck and pulled her down close taking her mouth in a hungry kiss, his tongue searching for hers, lashing, inflaming her further. Her fingers gripped the thick lapels of his great coat.

His hands traveled down to her hips shoving her into position over him, and a sharp breath escaped her when she felt the pressure of his hardness right between her legs, just where she ached for him. The jostling of the coach pushed her against him roughly, and she let out a small cry as the friction between them multiplied her need. He let out a heavy breath as he slipped one hand under her dress over her bare flesh. Her body jerked in his arms, and a low cry escaped her lips as his fingers found her.

“Yes, there you are,” he breathed, his voice thick in the darkness.

He knew her body very well, and she immediately flooded with heat under his insistent touch. He buried his face in her bosom, his other hand sliding down her rear. Two of his fingers slid inside her, and she shuddered in his arms.

“Brandon…”

“You’re soaked.” He let out an expletive-filled groan.

His fingers claimed her depths as his thumb stroked over her, teasing, rubbing. Her arms clutched his neck and shoulders, her thighs tightened, and she came apart sharply in his grip, letting out a low moan.

“You liked that, eh, Lady Graven?” His smug, harsh tone struck her like an icy blast of winter air. Was that scorn, a taunt? Had he just proven a point? Her heart shrank. He had marked her like an animal in heat, showed her who was her master, proved to her to whom she belonged.

She twisted back from his chest, but his strength was too much for her. His one hand fisted tightly in her hair, and he brought their faces inches apart.

“Are you punishing me?” she asked against his lips, the back of her throat stinging. “Are you trying to teach me a lesson?”

His eyes creased. “Punishing you?”

“Yes, yes, punishing me.”

“What the devil are you talking about?”

“I told you you’d hate me for this marriage, you’d resent me.” Her hands pushed against his shoulders. “Tonight you saw what’s been denied you, and you’re angry.” His body hardened under her, his fingers gripped her bare thigh.

“I am annoyed about Charles and Andrew,” Brandon said, his other hand releasing its tight hold on her hair. “But I don’t hate you.” His hands slid over her hips and pressed into her rear. Her breath caught in the darkness. The gentle yet carnal possessiveness of that gesture only set off a spiral of heat in her chest. “I don’t think I could ever hate you, Justine,” he whispered.

Platypire Review by Mel
Hollywood on Tap by Avery Flynn

*was generously given a copy in exchange for an honest review…..Thank you

HOLLYWOOD ON TAP by Avery Flynn is the second book in the Sweet Salvation Brewery Series. It can be read as a standalone but I think, like I do in most series novels, that it is best to read the first one first so the crossover in characters and themes are not missed. Flynn did a great job in explaining anything I missed in the previous book but I just think I would have enjoyed it a little more if I knew more back history.

So, HOLLYWOOD ON TAP focus is on the second triplet, Natalie. She is now part owner of her Uncle’s brewery and because of her organizational skills, cardigan button up sweaters, her bossiness, and smart mouth, is the perfect fit to get things back on track. Sean is the brewery’s manager and does not exactly like Natalie. This is a story of total opposites and the only thing they have in common is that they are both hard headed. There is a twist in the plot that forces these two to work together for a common goal.

I have to say that I like the banter between Natalie and Sean and found their heated relationship hilarious at times. Great, quick read with a Happy Ever After ending with a little who-done-it mystery.  HOLLYWOOD ON TAP is well written and written in a 3rd person point of view. I enjoyed it and would recommend it as a fun read.

Will his call of duty break both their hearts?

Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. As a college senior juggling a full course load, Steph's only goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester. She’s focused, determined, and a firm believer in all work and no play. Then she meets Brandon Walker at a New Year’s Eve costume party. Despite his disguise, Steph finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon is an engineering major and ROTC student from the hills of Kentucky. Now that his father’s memory is fading, Brandon is even more determined to make his dad proud and graduate as an officer in the United States Army. Then he meets Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph’s resentment toward the military, he worries their relationship is doomed.

Steph unexpectedly finds herself in need of a roommate. Brandon volunteers, thinking it’s the perfect opportunity to show her the real Brandon, before he’s forced to admit the truth about his four-year obligation to the army. Afraid that living together will be a distraction to graduating on time, Steph establishes house rules—rules they both find difficult to obey.

When faced with the realization that she's fallen in love with a soldier, can Steph’s wounds from the past be healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

Solider On by Sydney Logan
*was generously given this book in exchange for a honest review….Thank you

SOLIDER ON by Sydney Logan is a sweet, coming into one’s self, stand alone, happy ever after, love story. I cannot begin to tell you how much I loved this story. What a great read!!! I mean it. It is not something I would normally pick up because it almost borderlines on YA but I loved it none the less.

SOLIDER ON is the story of Steph and Brandon.  Steph hates everything to do with the military and Brandon is in the ROTC program, about to graduate and has already signed up for 4 years. Problem!!!

It is a love story that evolves through friendship and love. Steph has her demons but as she faces them and becomes the person she is meant to be her fears disappear and she finds out what is truly important. Brandon is a NICE, respectable, deceit guy.  I loved them both. It was a little strange, but I keep thinking, “Man, I hope my daughter finds a guy like this.” That is the best compliment I could give an author.

SOLIDER ON is a love story and goes back to old school values. Brandon treats Steph how a lady should be treated and takes care of his family. Again, I loved it. The best part on the whole story for me was the love of the 80s that Steph and Brandon have.  There are many great movie references and who cannot love a guy that loves The Princess Bride and wears an Inigo Montoya shirt.

Rellik by Teresa Mummert

*one-clicked through Amazon

RELLIK is a standalone novel by the talented Teresa Mummert. When I first saw the blurb of Rellik, I had to have it so I went and one clicked it immediately. I have read several of Teresa Mummert’s books before and I have always enjoyed them and I would read her again. Her story lines are always amazing.

I want to say right up front that I loved the general idea of the story and I loved Ella and Rellik, aka Ryder. What keeps me from giving RELLIK a higher rating are a couple of things. The editing is horrible. So many mistakes and they really took away from the story. It is not just misspelled words but wrong words completely and wrong names being used when the character was not even in the room and then they would walk in.  Also, there are parts of the story that are almost missing. At one point I made sure that I did not accidentally skip a chapter.  I think I caught on who the Dream Catcher Killer was but I was confused and even did a little of a reread to see if I missed something. I didn’t.  I was so sad. I just wanted to scream. Where are her Beta readers and why did someone not catch these things?

You have no idea how much I wanted to LOVE this book. I still want to love it.  I want to know all things about Ryder and Ella but so many questions are left unanswered.  I would love to see RELLIK pulled, redone and then rereleased. I would read it again because I feel that the story is there and I think it could be amazing.

SYNOPSIS:

Picture
One lucky woman is in for the ride of her life with three sexy cowboys…

During summer break, wannabe wild woman Channing Kinkaid is offered the chance to shed her inhibitions and horse around on the road with a real chaps-and-spurs wearing rodeo cowboy.

From the moment Colby McKay—bull rider, saddle bronc buster and calf roper—sets his lust-filled eyes on the sweet and fiery Channing, he knows she’s up to the challenge of being his personal buckle bunny. But he also demands that his rodeo traveling partners, Trevor and Edgard are allowed to join in their no-holds-barred sexcapades.

Although Channing secretly longed to be the sole focus of more than one man’s passions, all is not as it seems with the sexy trio. Colby’s demand for her complete submission behind closed doors tests her willful nature, and his sweet-talking ways burrow into her heart.

Will Colby have to break out the bullropes and piggin’ string to convince this headstrong filly that the road to true love doesn’t have to be as elusive as that championship belt buckle?

Warning: this story has tons of explicit sex, graphic language that’d make your mama blush, light bondage, ménage a trois, and—yee-haw!—hot nekkid cowboy man-love

Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James
*was generously given a copy in exchange for an honest review

LONG HARD RIDE by Lorelei James is the first book in the Rough Riders Series and let me just say that if you are looking for a Hotter than hot Cowboy with lots of extras, this is the one I would recommend.  Channing Kincaid is one lucky girl. Not one, but at times 3 hot cowboys and she play giddy up cowgirl.

Long Hard Ride is filled with sexy time and I mean a lot of sexy time. It is total erotica. I loved it but be warned it is not a plot driven, get all deep with emotion, kind of book. It is a fast read and Lorelei James’ writing is so good that it reads effortlessly. A love story does emerge between Channing and Colby but, wow, is there a lot of loving.

I loved that Channing was sassy and Colby was all alpha male. Trevor and Edgard, of course, played a huge role in bringing these two together and they were so much fun to get to know. I am looking forward to reading more from Lorelei James about both Trevor and Edgard. This series is totally fun.

MEL's REVIEW:

Poppy by Savannah Stewart
*was generously provided a copy of POPPY in exchange for a honest review

Poppy by Savannah Stewart is the 3rd book in the Behind the Words series and although it is a stand alone, I would recommend reading ARIANNA and JAYDE first so you understand all the little details.

I have always liked Poppy. I thought she was the one girl in the group of friends that really knew what she wanted, and even though she loves her friends, was not scared to go after what she wanted. Poppy is a smart, determined, and a girly girl.  Riley, and the feelings Poppy has for him is really her only distraction. But what is a great love story without a distraction?

Riley is a beautiful distraction, and I liked him from the very beginning. The attraction between Riley and Poppy is unbelievably hot. The one thing that is a consistent hurdle for Riley and Poppy is Alexis; I hated her. I just kept doing horrible things in my head to that woman, but it was fun to hate her. Poppy  just cannot seem to deny the attraction she has for Riley, and it was at times heart breaking to watch her try.

Arianna, Brayden, Jayde, Nate and Cash make appearances, and it is nice to get Poppy and Riley’s point of views about the in and outs of what was going on in their stories. I loved having all the details filled in. I felt like it made all the questions that I had go away, and I felt complete.

POPPY is a character driven, well written, HEA with no cliff hangers. Past story lines combined with new details and childhood histories make the story complete. I would strongly recommend POPPY and the rest of the series.

SYNOPSIS:

Picture
If I had known I'd have a hot architect balls deep inside of me before the end of the weekend, I'd have made time for a pedicure.

Lauren
It's all the little things—the action plans, the long-kept promises—that started falling apart when my life slipped into controlled chaos.

After I met Matthew Walsh.

I couldn't decide whether I wanted to run screaming or rip his pants off, and most days I wanted a little of both. If I was being honest with myself, it was rip his pants off, ride him like a workhorse, and then run screaming.

Matthew
A rebellious streak ran through Lauren Halsted. It was fierce and unrelentingly beautiful, and woven through too many good girl layers to count, and she wasn't letting anyone tell her what to do.

Unless, of course, she was naked.

She wasn't looking for me and I sure as shit wasn't looking for her, but we found each other anyway and now we were locked in a battle of wills, waiting for the other to blink.

Sometimes the universe conspires to bring people together. Other times, it throws people down a flight of stairs and leaves them in a bruised and bloodied heap.

Underneath It All by Kate Canterbary
*was generously given a copy by RockStarPR in exchange for a honest review

UNDERNEATH IT ALL by Kate Canterbary is the first book in her series THE WALSHES. I was really surprised how in the first sentence of the book, I was all in. I mean it took my breath away for a second. Written in duel point of view, UNDERNEATH IT ALL was beautifully executed and a great read.

Lauren is a hard working and driven school teacher and will do anything to achieve her dreams of opening a school. She has spent the last year of her life pursuing it and is not about to throw it away over a boy. Matt is an architect and a workaholic. Neither of these two has time nor are looking for any kind of relationship at all, this being all true until they meet each other. Matt goes about showing her how he being a distraction is a good thing.

Lauren and Matt are totally relatable characters and I found it refreshing that Lauren was as driven and passionate about her work.  Matt was a total babe, hot and sexy. I really enjoyed how Matt perused Lauren. He had to work hard for her and she was not an easy catch. As much as I loved the pursuit, I thought it went on for a little too long. I mean how much more does a man have to show you before you melt. I enjoyed it though and I loved how they were both funny and witty.

The sex scenes were hot and steamy and defiantly worth the read. Also, the families on both sides are really interesting to interact with. I loved their involvement.

All in all, I really enjoyed UNDERNEATH IT ALL and I would recommend as a fun, sweet read.

SYNOPSIS:

Picture
The New York Times and USA Today bestselling Marked Men series continues with this sizzling, sexy story of love, heartbreak, fate, and second chances.

After the only girl he ever loved told him that he would never be enough, Rowdy St. James knocked the Texas dust off his boots and set out to live up to his nickname. A good ol’ boy looking for good times and good friends, Rowdy refuses to take anything too seriously, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Burned by love once, he isn’t going to let himself trust a woman again. But that’s before his new co-worker arrives, a ghost from the past who’s suddenly making him question every lesson he ever learned.

Salem Cruz grew up in house with too many rules and too little fun—a world of unhappiness she couldn’t wait to forget. But one nice thing from childhood has stayed with her; the memory of the sweet, blue-eyed boy next door who’d been head over heels in love with her little sister.

Now, fate and an old friend have brought her and Rowdy together, and Salem is determined to show him that once upon a time he picked the wrong sister. A mission that is working perfectly—until the one person that ties them together appears, threatening to tear them apart for good.

MEL's REVIEW:

ROWDY by Jay Crownover

*was generously given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review

ROWDY by Jay Crownover is the 5th book in the Marked Men Series but is a standalone complete with a HEA.  I like to think of them as companion novels because once you sink your teeth into Jay’s men, you will want to know everything about every one of her characters and never want any of her books to end.  I am going to say right now that I LOVE EVEYTHING Jay has ever written and ROWDY is no exception.  All the Marked Men, RULE, JET, ROME and NASH, are must have books and always on my list of highly recommended.

ROWDY is a story of first and lasts and how what may be your first, and at the time you think only chance to really love, is really just a beginning of a whole bunch of firsts in a lifetime. It is also a story about finding the one that you want all your lasts with, which is such a romantic concept that I just wanted to cry. I was so excited when I learned that Rowdy would get his own book. I always liked him. Rowland St. James, could he have a better name? I think not, plus he is from Texas. He is Jet’s best buddy and I loved all of his conversations with Cora in ROME. Rowdy is just such a likeable guy plus in my mind’s eye, was the blue-eyed, slicked- backed blonde hair hunk that looked like he stepped right out of a James Dean movie…swoon. He really is the boy next door but, just what I call JAYafied.

Salem Cruz knows who she is and what she wants and has her eyes and her heart set on Rowdy. I love Salem. She is beautiful, strong, and confident but she really rounds the group of girls, which we have all come to know, out. Salem fits and Rowdy has to wrap his head around that idea and get over so much loss in his life.  Salem and Rowdy’s history has to all be sorted out in order for them to move forward.

Rowdy and Salem are just the couple that makes it all better. They, together, make the whole series come almost full circle. I found their story the one that brings all the unanswered questions, answers.  I loved every moment of ROWDY.
