SYNOPSIS:

Picture
A father’s threats. A tragic accident. Unanswered questions. Oz Sullivan has finally moved past the tangled web surrounding his brief, but intense, relationship with the young, impetuous Adrienne Deschanel. Through his family, and successful career as an attorney, he has forged a tranquil predictability.

Then Adrienne unexpectedly emerges, with no memory of the life she once led. Her desperate attempt to flee the confusing and dark influences in the bayou instinctively propels her to the one face for which she has a name. Oz’s world is once again turned upside down, as he must decide how to help her without losing himself entirely.

Set amidst the lush and vibrant backdrop of New Orleans, St. Charles at Dusk tells the story of Oz and Adrienne; of forbidden love, and startling heartbreak.

MEL'S REVIEW:

St. Charles at Dusk (House of Crimson and Clover Prequel) By Sarah M. Cradit
* I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for a honest review*

Before I go into details, I want to say overall, I enjoyed St. Charles at Dusk by Sarah M. Cradit. It was not really my type of reading material but all in all I did enjoy it. With that said, I have to admit that I had a little trouble following the story line with the switches in time frames and POV.
Sarah does an excellent job in the description of places in New Orleans and I most definitely want to see some of them if I ever get a chance. However, at times, I felt like I was reading a tour guide, with too much detail.
Oz and Adrienne are the main characters. I liked Oz, liked not loved, and thought he was a nice guy but he seemed a little wimpy to me because of the self doubt. I get it. He is worried about the age difference between him and Adrienne but make a decision all ready. His self doubt is commendable and honest but annoying at the same time. I was not the biggest fan of Adrienne. I could not connect with her. She is likeable but a little uppity for my taste. She is not a down to earth kind of gal.
The story line however is interesting with all the twist and turns. Some of the back story was drawn out and a little unnecessary and I still have questions that never got answered but overall I liked it.

St. Charles at Dusk by Sarah M. Cradit receives 3 out of 5 Platypires.

SYNOPSIS:

***Author Note: This is not a love story. This is a story of love gone wrong.***
Growing up the way I did, you’d think I’d be more screwed up than what I actually am.

Soon as I turned sixteen, I left that bump in the road I called home and took my chances on the street.

Best decision I ever made.

Now, at the age of twenty six, I’m educated, employed and damn good at my job.

My friends have become my family. Like me, they know what it’s like to grow up unloved.

But the saying is true.

The world makes way for those who know where they are going.

That’s me.

I know where I’m going and I’ll get there eventually. On my own terms and at my own pace.

But then there’s him.

I feel his eyes on me. I see him hiding in plain sight. He watches me.

He makes me feel.

It’s unconventional.

But it’s real.

I’m sure you’re wondering how a person falls in love with their stalker.

So am I.

This isn’t a story.

This is my life.

MEL's REVIEW:

I do not even know where to start with this review. I had heard all the talk and really just wanted to see what all the hype was. I can tell you that I finished the book a couple of days ago and just sat on my hands trying to decide how I felt about it. I still do not know.

This is what I do know. I loved Lexi and the relationships with all her friends. I loved the back and forth POV of both Lexi and Twitch. I loved their hotness together and the truth is I love Twitch but he terrifies me.

The story itself was different and new. Twitch is not a nice guy, and when I say that, I mean, he is a bad person all the way around except with Lexi. I think the only redeeming quality about him is his intense love for Lexi.

I do not want to giveaway anything away but at 75% of the book finished, I just saw nothing good coming. My thoughts were that RAW was nothing out of the ordinary and then I finished it. At the end, I was bawling and I mean at one point, I had to put my kindle down and go cry. When I came back to it, I just cried harder. RAW is one of those rare finds that stays with you long after you close the back cover.

The ending in one word: BALLSY!!!

REVIEW:

I received Goodbye Girl written by Scarlett Metal as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read other books by Scarlett Metal and I have always enjoyed them so I was looking forward to sinking my teeth in this one. Goodbye Girl left me a little hungry for more meat. It was a little short but enjoyable. Goodbye Girl is a sweet little love story that has some great qualities.  If you are looking for a really quick read about a sexy cowboy, this would be it. The story and character development, at times, feels rushed and underdeveloped but it still was a fun little read.

Rachel and Clint meet in a diner; the connection is instant and the love story grows from there. What I found most interesting is Clint’s relationship to his family. They are just as much a part of the story line as the main characters and I found that refreshing. I loved Ma. She was my favorite and the interaction with all the characters is entertaining at times.

Goodbye Girl is the first in the Hidden Lane Ranch series. It is a standalone novel. I think of it more as a novella since it just needed to be developed a little more. It does have some rated “X” scenes and they are hot. Scarlett Metal left me wanting to know more of the story of Clint’s brother Wyatt so due to that fact:

I have to rate Goodbye Girl a 3 out of 5 Platypires. Texas Hugs and Happy Reading!!!

SYNOPSIS:

Picture
Sometimes the wrong choice can be just right . . .

Fun and fearless, Cora Lewis knows how to keep her tattooed "bad boy" friends at the Marked in line. But beneath all that flash and sass is a broken heart. Cora won't let herself get burned again. She's waiting to fall in love with the perfect man—a baggage-free, drama-free guy ready for commitment. Then she meets Rome Archer.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He's stubborn, rigid, and bossy. And he's returned from his final tour of duty more than a little broken. Rome's used to filling many roles: big brother, doting son, supersoldier—but none of those fit anymore. Now he's just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the dark demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer through it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes a blinding flash of color in a sea of gray.Perfect may not be in the cards, but perfectly imperfect could just last forever .

REVIEW:

You know a book is good when you can hardly breathe reading it. I really try to be impartial when reading and writing a review but I can’t when it comes to Jay Crownovers’ books. I ADORE her books and writing style. Let me, let you, in on a little secret:  JAY CROWNOVER’s writing is just that good. ROME has been out for a little while now. I pre-ordered it and downloaded it to my kindle the day it came out.  However, I have held off reading it. The truth is , even though this is not the last book in the series, I knew it would just be that good and I always am left  wanting more of the story when I turn the last page. Jay’s writing skill and character development leaves me spoiled. Nothing compares to how good of a writer she is. Jay always leaves me with a book hangover that takes me days, sometimes ever weeks to get over.

ROME is the 3rd book in the Marked Man series by Jay and if you have not read the first two in the series, RULE and JET, then stop what you are doing right now, go one-click them and read them. I promise, you will not be disappointed.

Rome is Rule’s older brother who has just gotten home from the war zone. Rome is broken and perfect and you will fall in love with him. Jay Crownover does that to you. Be PREPARED!!! Every character she writes is almost better than the last. I never know who I love the most cause her boys leave me in a total mess. I swear, I would die standing in the middle of her group of boys.

With that said, let me talk about Cora. I want her as my best friend.  Cora is strong, tells it how it is and just downright adorable. I connect with her. In fact, I adore her. Again, this is Jay’s amazing writing skills. The girls’ in her books are my girlfriends. Sometimes, I want to just slap them for being so silly and in the next moment, I just want to love them through whatever it is. Cora, for me, is as real as they get. I relate to her the most. She is busy taking care of everyone around her and I love her for it.

Being the 3rd book in the series and all the characters are friends or connected, I would not say ROME is a complete stand alone but it is his and Cora’s story. I have read them all in sequence and was already, to some degree, invested in Cora and Rome’s story plus each of the couples relationships continue on in each book. They are a family. ROME is a must must must read. So are RULE and JET.
