Underneath It All by Kate Canterbary

SYNOPSIS:

If I had known I'd have a hot architect balls deep inside of me before the end of the weekend, I'd have made time for a pedicure.

Lauren
It's all the little things—the action plans, the long-kept promises—that started falling apart when my life slipped into controlled chaos.

After I met Matthew Walsh.

I couldn't decide whether I wanted to run screaming or rip his pants off, and most days I wanted a little of both. If I was being honest with myself, it was rip his pants off, ride him like a workhorse, and then run screaming.

Matthew
A rebellious streak ran through Lauren Halsted. It was fierce and unrelentingly beautiful, and woven through too many good girl layers to count, and she wasn't letting anyone tell her what to do.

Unless, of course, she was naked.

She wasn't looking for me and I sure as shit wasn't looking for her, but we found each other anyway and now we were locked in a battle of wills, waiting for the other to blink.

Sometimes the universe conspires to bring people together. Other times, it throws people down a flight of stairs and leaves them in a bruised and bloodied heap.

MEL's REVIEW:

Underneath It All by Kate Canterbary
*was generously given a copy by RockStarPR in exchange for a honest review

UNDERNEATH IT ALL by Kate Canterbary is the first book in her series THE WALSHES. I was really surprised how in the first sentence of the book, I was all in. I mean it took my breath away for a second. Written in duel point of view, UNDERNEATH IT ALL was beautifully executed and a great read.

Lauren is a hard working and driven school teacher and will do anything to achieve her dreams of opening a school. She has spent the last year of her life pursuing it and is not about to throw it away over a boy. Matt is an architect and a workaholic. Neither of these two has time nor are looking for any kind of relationship at all, this being all true until they meet each other. Matt goes about showing her how he being a distraction is a good thing.

Lauren and Matt are totally relatable characters and I found it refreshing that Lauren was as driven and passionate about her work.  Matt was a total babe, hot and sexy. I really enjoyed how Matt perused Lauren. He had to work hard for her and she was not an easy catch. As much as I loved the pursuit, I thought it went on for a little too long. I mean how much more does a man have to show you before you melt. I enjoyed it though and I loved how they were both funny and witty.

The sex scenes were hot and steamy and defiantly worth the read. Also, the families on both sides are really interesting to interact with. I loved their involvement.

All in all, I really enjoyed UNDERNEATH IT ALL and I would recommend as a fun, sweet read.

SYNOPSIS:

Picture
The New York Times and USA Today bestselling Marked Men series continues with this sizzling, sexy story of love, heartbreak, fate, and second chances.

After the only girl he ever loved told him that he would never be enough, Rowdy St. James knocked the Texas dust off his boots and set out to live up to his nickname. A good ol’ boy looking for good times and good friends, Rowdy refuses to take anything too seriously, especially when it comes to the opposite sex. Burned by love once, he isn’t going to let himself trust a woman again. But that’s before his new co-worker arrives, a ghost from the past who’s suddenly making him question every lesson he ever learned.

Salem Cruz grew up in house with too many rules and too little fun—a world of unhappiness she couldn’t wait to forget. But one nice thing from childhood has stayed with her; the memory of the sweet, blue-eyed boy next door who’d been head over heels in love with her little sister.

Now, fate and an old friend have brought her and Rowdy together, and Salem is determined to show him that once upon a time he picked the wrong sister. A mission that is working perfectly—until the one person that ties them together appears, threatening to tear them apart for good.

MEL's REVIEW:

ROWDY by Jay Crownover

*was generously given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review

ROWDY by Jay Crownover is the 5th book in the Marked Men Series but is a standalone complete with a HEA.  I like to think of them as companion novels because once you sink your teeth into Jay’s men, you will want to know everything about every one of her characters and never want any of her books to end.  I am going to say right now that I LOVE EVEYTHING Jay has ever written and ROWDY is no exception.  All the Marked Men, RULE, JET, ROME and NASH, are must have books and always on my list of highly recommended.

ROWDY is a story of first and lasts and how what may be your first, and at the time you think only chance to really love, is really just a beginning of a whole bunch of firsts in a lifetime. It is also a story about finding the one that you want all your lasts with, which is such a romantic concept that I just wanted to cry. I was so excited when I learned that Rowdy would get his own book. I always liked him. Rowland St. James, could he have a better name? I think not, plus he is from Texas. He is Jet’s best buddy and I loved all of his conversations with Cora in ROME. Rowdy is just such a likeable guy plus in my mind’s eye, was the blue-eyed, slicked- backed blonde hair hunk that looked like he stepped right out of a James Dean movie…swoon. He really is the boy next door but, just what I call JAYafied.

Salem Cruz knows who she is and what she wants and has her eyes and her heart set on Rowdy. I love Salem. She is beautiful, strong, and confident but she really rounds the group of girls, which we have all come to know, out. Salem fits and Rowdy has to wrap his head around that idea and get over so much loss in his life.  Salem and Rowdy’s history has to all be sorted out in order for them to move forward.

Rowdy and Salem are just the couple that makes it all better. They, together, make the whole series come almost full circle. I found their story the one that brings all the unanswered questions, answers.  I loved every moment of ROWDY.

Surviving Us by Erin Noelle
*was generously given a copy by the author in exchange for and honest review

SURVIVING US by Erin Noelle is her newest standalone, HEA with no cliff hangers, novel that will leave you happy on the inside. I had the pleasure of hearing the concept behind SURVIVING US while talking to Ms. Noelle at a signing. I was super excited and was thrilled when the concept came to life. SURVIVING US is about two people that are sole survivors after catastrophic events occur in each of their lives and how they each learn to live and love.

I loved SURVIVING US from beginning to end. What makes SURVIVING US extraordinary is how Bristol and Davis find their way to each other and really their back stories. It is an emotional rollercoaster. This is story about life with a love story wrapped in the middle. It is about how life is fleeting and unjust but at the same time wonderful and how faith in love is the key to a remarkable life. Bristol and Davis find each other but in doing so find how to carry on. Beautifully written, with amazing depth SURVING US is an incredible LIFE story.

SYNOPSIS:

Picture
I suppose some of us have to get really dirty before we can become truly clean.

I was allegedly South Dakota’s most famous old lady.
Sixteen years ago I survived my old man’s murder

Never again.
Never again will I surrender my heart.
Never again will I sacrifice to the Club.

But that all changed in one night.

I came home and crashed into him,
and my past and present blew up in my face.
Both of us lonely, running on empty, and unwilling to admit it.

Until now.
Now I feel things I’d forgotten about, want things I’d cut out of my insides.

Love not only stings when you lose it, when it’s ripped away from you.
When it first sinks its teeth in you, it can cut just as raw and sting just as deep.

I’d forgotten that.

Who holds the keys to betrayal? To suspicion? To trust?
To brotherhood? To family?
To redemption and a bleeding heart?
Right now, I just might

LOCK & KEY by Cat Porter
*was generously given a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review

Lock & Key by Cat Porter is the first book in her One-Eyed Jacks MC series and is a stand alone. I can tell you that it is a MUST read.  I did not know what to expect since this is a first novel but OMG is it good.  This book will stay with me a super long time. I love MC books but this one was so different that I just could not get enough.

I loved everything about this book. LOCK & KEY was plot and character driven. It is about First Love, Lost Love, Last Loves, Family love, and Club Love. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed it.

First of all, the characters in LOCK & Key are not young. They are in their late 30s; early 40s, with baggage and both having a life that can get in their future’s way. Grace, aka Little Sister and Miller, aka Lock, are strong individuals with a past that interconnects with common bonds from the club and personal relationships with family. However, Porter also intertwined the past and Grace’s first love and the loss of that love as the story unfolds as to why Grace has come back.

Just fabulous is all I can say. No cliffhangers and a HEA which is always nice and appreciated. Cat Porter is an author to put on your must read list.

Finished by Claire Kent
*was generously given an copy in exchange for a honest review

I so wanted to love FINISHED by Claire Kent but I wound up just liking it. FINISHED is not the first book by Claire Kent that I have read, so I think maybe my expectations were set a little high. I was so excited to see what kind of juicy, threesome, action adventure Kent would take us on and although it does start off that way, to many things happen and it does not end that way.

Let me tell you what I loved. I loved all the hot steamy scenes. Kent is an expert in writing amazing love scenes and her writing skills are excellent. I loved Mike. I think all the woman in the world would swoon over Mike. He was great and I loved when his alpha, barbaric side came out. I saw why Julia was so attracted to him. What I did not get was her attraction to Drayton, nor the loyalty that Mike felt for him. I could not get into Drayton at all and I think that was why I was not so thrilled with the story.

Drayton was just to savvy for me. I knew he was bad news and I kept reading just to prove I was right. I also had an issue with Julia’s loyalty to Drayton. I mean, I love that she was all heart and all but I just felt she was weak and that is not how I thought Kent meant her to be. I think by Julia  being such a peace maker and having such a big heart, she lost her backbone….although she did find it towards the end which was awesome.

All in all, FINISHED by Claire Kent was a good little read.  I liked many aspects of it. I think if I had a little more history on all three, I would have loved it more. I just felt thrown into the middle of the relationships and kept trying to play catch up.

Burying Water by KA Tucker

Synopsis:

Picture
The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

BURYING WATER by K.A. Tucker

*was generously given a ecopy of the book in exchange for an honest review

BURYING WATER by K.A. Tucker is the first release in a brand new 2nd series of books. Best known for the Ten Tiny Breaths Series, I always wonder how hard it is for an amazing author to break away from what they have been writing and write something new. Ms. Tucker has done a really fabulous job.

Burying Water is written in two Points of View and shifted from past to the present. I found BURYING WATER to be not just a love story but a story of fate. When two people belong together, it happens and nothing, not even a lack of memories will get in the way of fate.  I loved the back and forth between past and present and found the flow of the story really flawless. The only thing that I found fault in was that I had it all figured out very early on but the journey was still worth it. I wanted the very best for Water and Jesse and I wanted them to somehow find they way back to each other.

I also loved Ginny. This eccentric woman was amazing and made the story so believable. I love how she guided and nurtured in her grumpy way. We all need a Ginny in our lives.

All in all, I really enjoyed BURYING WATERS and would recommend it to everyone. There is some “darker” moments in book so be warned. I cannot wait for more of this series.

Sex Unlimited: The Complete Volumes by Kathryn Perez
*was generously given a ecopy of the book in exchange for an honest review

SEX UNLIMITED by Kathryn Perez is a sexy little number with a story that in fabulous. Do not let the synopsis fool you. This is a GREAT read and I loved every minute of it.  With some really big cliffhangers, I was thanking my stars that I could just keep reading because my heart would not have been able to handle waiting to find out what happened next.

Right out of the gate, I loved and identified with Candace.  This is a story about love over the age of 35. The characters of SEX UNLIMITED had a life before and the dealings of the past are a huge part of the future.  Candace makes a profile on Sex Unlimited.com just almost as a joke but then the most amazing thing happens when Brisban emails her. He is uncannily honest and they agree to meet up and then hook up, but then so much more happens. I absolutely loved that this was a story that was formed from a hook up. I find that the decision was very grownup and not just a spur of the moment thing. I am a firm believer of us all needing touch and sometimes we just need a hookup.

All the characters in SEX UNLIMITED are well developed and just fun. I adore Candace’s best friend, Janette. I think every woman should have a friend like her. Brisban is hot, honest and unbelievably romantic. I loved him right from the start. I read  the entire book in a sitting because it was just that good. I could not put it down.

I would strongly recommend SEX UNLIMITED and in fact, I did. I called my bestie and was insistent that she put it on her TBR list. Hey, what are friends for?
