Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper may not be the prettiest girl in her high school, but she has a loyal group of friends, a biting wit, and a spot-on BS detector. She's also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush, who calls Bianca the Duff--the designated ugly fat friend--of her crew.
But things aren't so great at home and Bianca, desperate for a distraction, ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn't such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she's falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
My Review:
The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger My rating: 4 of 5 stars I am really surprised with how much I liked this book. I really could not put it down. Yes at times the storyline was a tad predictable but it was still very entertaining. I really liked Bianca and thought the message in the book was very inspiring. Even though the book had the "player" as the male lead which is a trope that I am really over, I couldn't help but root for Wesley. I thought the author Kody Kelplinger captured the true essence of what it means to be a teen and dealing with high school drama. Maybe the fact that she was 17 when it was written helped a lot. I already can't wait to read more from her. I would highly recommend this book for fans of Mature YA. There is sex and foul language in the book. View all my reviews | |
