Synopsis
Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil's name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.
But what Starr does or does not say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.
My Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
5 Playpires for The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
READ THIS BOOK! I REPEAT, READ THIS BOOK!
I was fortunate enough to meet Angie Thomas at Houston Teen Book Con this past April. I kick myself for not purchasing a signed copy of the HATE U GIVE. Luckily, my fellow blogger and friend JOOOD bought me a copy as a graduation gift. Thank you JOOOD.
Now, all that being said, I devoured the HATE U GIVE and read it in a span of a day or two. Damn, being an adult and having to do adult stuff. I would never have had stop reading because this book is just that good. The Hate u Give is considered a Black Lives Matter book but it’s more than just a book about a movement. It’s an emotionally, engaging read that breaks apart what is seen in the media and delves into the human connection behind a police shooting.
Hands down this is one of the best reads I’ve read for 2017 and I highly recommend for others to read it.
